Zchinque: I hope everyone have enjoyed the game, and I would like to hear any comments that you may have.
My own thoughts, full role PMs, and more to come.
Vitek: You said you'll add your thoughts, have you forgotten us or have you decided we don't deserve it? :-)
Thanks for reminding me. I went to Amsterdam right after the game finished, and then it kinda slipped my mind...
Anyway,,,
I thought this game was very winnable for the town, even down to the last day. Sure, being at LYLO is rough, in particular with two scums still lurking about.
Let's take a look at it.
This might be a little harsh, but Rob shouldn't have been lynched. GhostQlyph, dead and thus confirmed townie, said something to the effect that Rob was 95%-confirmed townie in her PM. While the lyncher-aspect of her role muddled things a little, she had no reason to be lying about this. In these cases it's pretty much always better to look for other targets (in particular when there are more than 1 mafia left). The, say, 2% of the time were the "confirmed townie" turns out to actually be scum, you'll just chalk it down as a bitter loss, go ballistic in the postgame and yell at whoever it was that confirmed the scumbag.
When a dead town mason has confirmed the other mason to be town, the percentage play will always be to leave that mason alone.
Jess claimed survivor - a somewhat common falseclaim for scum. For some reason the town figured that "the claim matched her play". Sure, I can see that. But then again, a survivor will usually try to stay out of the spotlight somewhat (to prevent being lynched), not scumhunt too much (to prevent being nightkilled), and in general not care too much about the town's chances of winning. In short, in many ways survivors play like mafia.
In general, survivor claims should always be put under a lot of scrutiny. If possible, it's also often a good idea to vig claimed survivors - first of all, that gets any falseclaiming mafia, but getting rid of actual survivors is good because in a LYLO situation the survivor has every incentive to vote along with the mafia to end the game.
I'm also surprised that Vitek, claimed name cop, wasn't under more scrutiny the last day. While this would be modgaming to a degree, the town already had two investigative roles down, among them a full cop.
While Vitek did "out" Typhoon as Jacques Villeneuve, there are two things to take into consideration here. First, Typhoon was
very likely to be lynched anyway, by that point. And second, it would be very easy for a mafia member to fake the name cop role under the circumstances - I don't remember Vitek posting any results on players who hadn't already nameclaimed.
