The site seems nice, but for me the main BIG difference with GOG is that it doesn't have the old great classics : (

That "fan account" would fix the main issue I have with them, that of the re-download option.

To bad it's broken! Trying to sign up I'm putting in the email I used to purchase the Bastion soundtrack and I get "There aren't any purchases associated with that email address.". I logged in on that email account and still have the email with the soundtrack code for bandcamp. I actually avoided them because of this re-download issue ever since I bought the Bastion soundtrack. I guess I will keep avoiding them.

In the past, yes - also if you don't have fan account. However, it is possible to obtain a new download link.
With fan account I don't have to worry about expired download links.

One mistake... Bandcamp is not a shop (at least not typical). It works like Humble Bundle Widgets (not Humble Store), but with more features (such as main site with searching). Is entirely dependent on artists of what is available and what prices (also your payment goes directly to artists). Some downside: if artist or label delete their account, files also disappear (customer/fan can't re-download).
