Is it only me, or does that MTX work painfully slow? Starts up very long.
Today it told me i had no internet connection, and now, that mektekdev.com could not be found. Oh well.;)
It's nice to see MW4 getting a free release after almost a year of prayers, at least, part of MW4, but i'll wait for everything to work.

Aliasalpha: Is the merc's campaign particularly good? The campaign is the main reason I play games like that

Mercs is very good. I just feel it pales in comparison to Vengeance and BK. With Mercs, you have no real sense of resource management. Yeah, you cry when your Assault mech goes boom. But short of that, you have enough salvage and money to replace pretty much all your losses between missions.
Then there is the argument of ammo. All the MW4s have free ammo, which turns a lot of people off.
Anyone else have a ton of problems with this shitty mtx client? I attempted to install the game last night it of course froze up and I ended it and went to bed. This morning my windows would not load in. Had to go in through safe mode and manually remove the piece of crap, after doing that windows loads in fine.
Well, this is demonstration in how not to release a free game. Wait until Desura is released if you want to pull this sort of thing, people.
MTX is absolutely useless, but you can still get the game up and running. Here's how to do it:
- Grab the main file and the patches if you don't already have them. One option is the post above by Arkose.
- Open each file in your compressed archive extractor of choice (7-Zip, WinRAR, standard Windows unzip, whatever) and shove the contents into whatever folder you want the game to reside in. Make sure to extract the files in the proper order! Main file first, then patch .0018, then patch .0020.
- Installation complete. Game's ready to play!
This is how I did it. No problems, everything runs properly. Avoid MTX entirely, folks!

How did you get the patches to work? Mine still says version .0017, it should be .0020.
Hell, i had to download everything via a normal torrent client, then open those mtx files in MTX and wait for their servers to get up, because MTX by itself can't check the hashes. Took awhile, but finally, i have MW4 up n' working, and i'm happy as hell.
Now i remember, i completely suck at MW. ;P
V4der: If You have the patch .mtx files, just open them in MTX, and he'll do the rest, if the server is up. There are two patches, one is 0018, and the other is 0020. Do them in the correct order, and You should be set. Good luck and have fun.;)
Mine seems to think it is .0017 as well, but the patches appear to work. The most obvious sign is the lack of a disk check, which I believe was present before one of the two patches.
MekTek seems to be at least partially back online, so MTX can be used to install now. I'll probably have to reinstall the 'proper' way if I want to get future patches and possibly multiplay, though I'm not sure how the latter works with this release. Does it need MTX to find servers?
Surprisingly, MTX seems to be working quite well now. I finally got it to exit the other night and had pretty much given up on it for now, but I decided to give it one more try today. It launched smoothly and I was able to start the MW4 download quite painlessly. At first, the speed was nothing to write home about, but I left it alone for a good hour then came back to find it humming along at about 350-375 kB/s with about a third of the game downloaded and an estimated hour left to download the rest. There are 7000+ available seeds (connected to about 40) and a little over 100 peers, so for a torrent download, it is in pretty good shape. As long as nothing major happens (knock on wood), I should actually be playing the game later this evening.
EDIT - 45 minutes later, its now done downloading and has started the install. I'm not ready to change my opinion of MTX yet, but today was radically different from two days ago. Perhaps the poor performance of MTX had much to do with the mad rush to get MW4 as soon as it was released?

I downloaded the multipart zip a few times, it was always corrupted. Could you post MD5s?

Indeed, it's running without any problems for me today. I hope they keep working on MTX to improve optimization (or actually bother to optimize it).

BoxOfSnoo: I downloaded the multipart zip a few times, it was always corrupted. Could you post MD5s?

I actually downloaded the main file with the MTX torrent, but through a different client that didn't obliterate system resources. I did download the patches from the post above, though.
The MD5s:
Main file: 478493A0660A97FF1F7E74EFBB3BE3F9
Patch .0018: ECC39AB261B00818FB9E428057C0A6F3
Patch .0020: F2E1FBA0948D976DC31B02213A433B31
So MTX is needed for the game to download, install and run, yeah? No point installing it on any system except the PC I plan to play on?
hmm, seems to be academic, mektek is down. Someone should have installed more heatsinks in their server

Actually, from what I have read in the thread/talked to people about, you don't actually NEED MTX unless (maybe) you are doing MP.

You don't need MTX to download the files themselves (which are readily available via HTTP or torrent--see earlier in this thread), but you will need it to install the patches since they use a special format and without patching the game will ask for the CD and refuse to go any further without it.
Once the game is patched to version 0018 or higher (which removes the disc check) you should be able to copy the install directory to another computer or whatever. You may need to run the .reg file in the game's folder (I'm not too sure what purpose it serves), but otherwise it should migrate fine from what I've read.
You don't need to have MTX running to play the game, whether single player or multiplayer.
EDIT: corrected, MTX isn't needed for multiplayer after all.

Thank-you Mek-Tek!
Finally got a working download of Mech 4 Mercenaries and it is fecking awesome. The way in which you can pick and choose missions or even enter arena battles is very addictive and tearing the opposition apart with a high powered gauss rifle is happy, happy fun.
I take back all the curse words i threw their way. Well, all the really bad ones.
