But that's hardly surprising, since I'm one of the more anti-steam folks around here. Much prefer GamersGate (and GOG obv.).
Still, Ubisoft's new DRM looks like it might be worse.
There was a time when I thought DRM was being reduced, but the past few months make me wonder if things are just going to get worse for PC gamers.
Of course, YMMV, since people are affected in different ways by different DRM methods.

By some definitions all unwanted or not deliberately installed software is considered malware.
It definitely falls into that category.
I don't know if it's a smart thing to say.
It's however too bad that only that piece of the interview has been brought under the attention.

Rock Paper Shotgun is trying to start a flame war. Obviously Marcin didn't say Steam was malware, he was referring to modern warfare 2's drm. Contacting Steam about the comment is ridiculous because he obviously was aiming it at modern warfare 2,

The use of "malware" struck me as mostly tongue in cheek, and even then referring to DRM in general rather than Steam in particular. It seems to me that Rock, Paper, Shotgun just picked out a single paragraph from a rather lengthy and interesting interview to try to manufacture a bit of controversy. Well, I suppose that's about par for the course with most blogs and "journalism" in general these days.

He didn't directly call Steam malware. Just pointed out that both Steam and DRM malware can cripple user's enjoyment of an entertainment product.

yeah in my opinion Steam's (just Steam's) DRM is light compared to the heavy handed TAGES (which from what I understand sometimes doesnt even allow you to request more activations).. Securom can be annoying at times but they are getting better at being flexible for the gamers that buy the stuff their DRM protects...

I've never actually tried uninstalling steam (as I like it). Is it as hard as it makes out?

I was a bit surprised that RPS hadn't posted anything about Arcanum & GK & the whole Activision-deal. Instead they (or to be fair, John Walker) took that one quote out of its original context and posted it as flame bait in an article that didn't have anything to do with GOG in the first place.
Don't get me wrong, RPS is still my favourite PC gaming site. But... yeah, it's kind of disappointing.
