And still no sign of Episode 3.

I'm not updated on this, and I'm not so sure that they'll do a stand-alone game. They can even add elements from DoTA into an bird's eye TF2 version, or even into Portal 2. Who knows...
It also depends if they'll reveal a new engine.
And yeah, again, nothing about EP3.

I would assume he can't really use many elements of DoTA (other than the gameplay) because its heavily based on Blizzard's IP. That said, there are already a couple of DoTA clones like League of Legends and Heroes of Newrath or whatever. I suppose one made by Valve and supported through Steam would fare better in terms of multiplayer community.

Also, in before: "ZOMG I bet it ships with Steamworks!" complaints.

If it is a real Valve game, I have no problems about it. And WILL buy it.
But I won't if it is third party game.

I'll echo the sentiment i read in other sites about this:
"Valve buying another mod team, wow, that's something new. Where's episode 3??"

seriously the wait for ep3 is just ridicolous.
how many new games got started, made and released at the time we waited for ep3. Full huge games not 5 hour adventure like episodes.
if valve is not planing something earth breaking with episode3 which includes:
New engine
minimum 10 hour gameplay
new weapons and enemies
tie ins to Opposing Force and Portal
then i shall rage on the internet.

you better get started, regarding the 10hours and opposing force...
and maybe start about the engine, too.

Maybe Valve's next target as a potential customer base is the Blizzard community.
( If Blizzard isn't coming to Steam,let's make a rival game. )

I doubt they will be able to make anything that rivals Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 or WoW.

It is clear now what the Episode 3 gimmick will be. Episode 1's was Alyx, Episode 2's was the car, so Episode 3's will clearly be supporting redshirts rushing at towers while defending your own towers from enemy mooks and Dark Gordon Freeman.
Hold on, I'm not sure possessive pronouns can be shaped like that...
