Anyone know how to do this? I just found my old CD version, and when I hit install on the menu, it gives me:
"Runtime Error!
Program: D:\GATEWAY\pifmaker.exe
abnormal program termination"
I would try to install it through DOSBox, but I don't know how to properly install a CD I physically have through that. I tried and it only gave me "Change configuration" and "Abort" options in the installation.
Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!
PS: I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, but I guess when you emulate DOS, that really doesn't matter, does it? :)

I did a Google search. I use to own that game but never played it.

The command: (mount) is your friend for DOSBOX.
1) Make a folder in the windows explorer. Call it strike or games.
2) Open DOSBOX
3) Type: mount c c:\strike (or whatever name you called it.)
4) Type: mount d (whatever letter your cd drive is, plus the colon :) -t cdrom
5) Type: d:
6) Type: install or whatever the installation file is, sometimes it's setup
7) Follow the instructions on screen and your golden.

I appreciate the reply and attempt to help me! However, I only made the same amount of progress as I did before without properly mounting the CD drive. Typing install on the mounted CD drive (d:\) brings me to the setup screen and all, but it only gives me two options on that screen:
"Change hardware/software configuration
Abort."
Those are the only two things I can do, and if I choose configuration it just says the configuration files could not be found nor created, try again blah blah. Obviously it's because the game hasn't even installed yet! Then, it says to switch to the drive that my CD is on and type "install" as a command to install the game. That would be great, except it only gives me two options, NEITHER of which actually install the game
I'll keep looking up solutions to this problem, but once again I appreciate any and all help anyone can give me!

No prob, It is very frustrating working with DOSBOX.
It sounds like it runs the game off the CD. If I remember correctly I believe the CD version of WC2 only installed minimal files to play. I guess to conserve disk space. I'm thinking maybe the sound configuration program creates a batch file or config file on the HD. Maybe after that you can execute the batch file on drive C or the actual game executable on the CD, probably strike.exe or something. I wish I had the CD still.
Don't forget to mount the drive C folder you created otherwise the setup won't be able to save any config or batch files. Because DOSBOX doesn't even know drive C exists.
I still remember back in the day trying to get these old beauties running. Configuring autoexec and the config files, trying to get the base memory up high enough to play the game.

I downloaded the disk version because I can't find the CD version. Looks like it installs the game to a SC directory and the executable is called sc.exe. The disk version does seem to give the options of installing the game or configuring the game. It did tell me that the config file didn't exist when I tried to configure the sound before installing.
I don't know if it helps but the disk version does work in DOSBOX.
