Because I found one, introducing Project C.A.R.S. (Community Assisted Racing Simulator)

I can only imagine the specs it will run :)

Takenote that I thought there were barely any racing simulators exclusive to PC.

either way this game will be coming next year.

Sometimes I wish I could afford a wheel-and-pedals controller, especially when trying to drive 1) anything even remotely powerful or 2) around the Nüburgring.
Projects CARS, made by Slightly Mad Studios, the same team behind the NFS Shift games. Let us hope it will be a great game, like Forza Motorsport. PC in missing a game like this. A great news for Car Sim fans :)

I found out its multiplatform but from the looks of it, it appears that PC is the lead platform while consoles are getting port versions.

See if you can find a used one in good condition. They are usually quite cheap.

Check out the Simbin Race series: http://www.simbin.com/games/
GRID
DiRT series
F1 2010, F1 2011, F1 2012
Colin McCrae series
Test Drive series

And though they are not realistic at all, the Trackmania games are aweseome.
There was one a few years back by the name of Sega GT. Was typically Japanese, and very much had the undescribable feel of the Gran Turismo games. Runs fine on Windows 7.
I've always found it weird that this kind of racing game was missing for the PC. There are lots of mildly or very realistic driving games for PC, but I don't really recollect any that tried to recreate the typical GT formula of gameplay, with hundreds of licensed cars, both stock and racing types, filling your garage with new vehicles either bought or won in races, with lots of tune and tweak options etc.

In 2005 Konami made Enthusia, something that you could call a "GT wanabee" that was as great as it was very unappreciated by most players and reviewers. I wonder why they didn't try to port it for PC, seeing that other Konami games like Silent Hill and PES series did make it to PC. Instead, it remained as a PS2 exclusive.

I know think about the opportunities modders can do with such a game, Graphics enhancing mods, make your own race track, and custom cars come to mind.
