Seriously impressive sculpting by one hell of a talented guy... with a chainsaw.

That's wicked awesome. Exclusively using a chainsaw... artists are funny sometimes, although one can't argue with the results.
So it is just ice sculpting, but with a piece of wood instead?
Very impressive, shame he spent so much time on a rubbish character![/controversy]
Blowtorching the piece was a nice touch and the individual detail was absolutely astounding, especially the way he went about carving the drill bit out.

Limitations is what allows for creativity and thus art. If you have more tools than you need, you lose elegance. Complexity and beauty arises from simplicity.
You can express great ideas with few words, play musical instruments with only a specific number of notes, or make a painting with a limited palette of colors. It's all about how you go about it.

Well, that's just it. It wouldn't have been as impressive if he'd used other tools also.

Same sort of techniques. But much more detailed and made from numerous segments.

It also had the benefit of masking the tonal variations in the wood. And yes, the drill was amazingly well carved.

Less is more, as they say. Doing detail work with a chainsaw... That must require a lot of patience to learn.

Well, he did. He used a drill. And we didn't see how he made the screws/rivets, except that they were apparently added later. It's still amazing though. 2K should have that sculpture in their lobby.

No silly. Ice sculptures are simply wood carvings except with frozen water. ;P

I thought he carved out the holes with a small chainsaw?
At first, I was like, "Oh, so it is just going to be a big lump with arms that he cut just to look like it, really", but then he began filling in the smallest of small details and then I was like, "Holy ass hat, that is awesome!". And that he does it all through the eyeholes of a Jason mask is even more mindblowing.

I don't think so. Near the end of the video there's a brief look at the plate on the back of the big daddy's hand. It's covered in perfectly round pencil sized holes. I don't think you can get chainsaws that small. But I don't think it matters. The vast majority of the details are obviously done by chainsaw, since we see him do them.

The actual process was an art unto itself.
