So what makes Dangerous Dave "Dangerous Dave"? Do you think it will sell based on name/nostalgia alone?
I remember playing the original one. It was not that different from other platform games of the time.
I never saw the other ones.

This screenshot is exactly same as the original level 3. So is this a new game, or just a remake?https://twitter.com/romero/status/543761785225240577

Here is a screenshot from the same place in the original one. The ring is already collected. The only difference is the pipe on top in the new one, but that doesn't change anything: those scepters are a red herring; they are unreachable.
And guys... give him a break. I'm not a big fan of John Romero, but I can understand why he'd be attached to that character. It's not a waste of talent if he works on a game he loves.

I read the "Masters of Doom" book, but that lacked screenshots. Thank you for this link.Charon121

Dangerous Dave was a neat and tough game, but DD2 was much better. Unforgiving too. I hated those facehugging slime monsters.

Killing them in mid air just before they hit you was something... I hated the spiders because they were silent, at least the green slimes you could hear before they reach you.
DD2 was one of my favourite games as a kid, but it could be just nostalgia talking.

Heh, now that I think about it, each enemy was almost equally dangerous. There were the hags with their ranged knife attack, lightning-fast werewolves, ghosts that appeared out of nowhere, spiders that stalked you from above etc. Even the zombies were nasty when they managed to corner you and you desperately needed to reload. Thankfully, me and my friend played this game a lot, and we learned some tricks. Like memorising where each enemy was, shooting through walls, using the height difference to our advantage... I hated the spiders because they were silent, at least the green slimes you could hear before they reach you.

It made for a slow progress, but reaching a new level was immensely satisfying. But we only got as far as the penultimate level. There we couldn't cope with the onslaught of those werewolves... But I remember having been particularly proud of the "cheat" I found: each level was stored in a single file in the game directory, and they were simply named level1.dat, level2.dat etc. So it was just a matter of substituting file names and we could get straight to the end boss just by starting a new game. That was the only way we could complete the game and see the final sequence. Ahh, good times. And the death animation were the coolest thing in video games back then.
