Okay, hopefully many remeber Icewind Dale series, which from what I've seen is pretty fun
(liked the freegame Book of Monsters which is sorta like that) and I'm wondering if there are ANY games that allow the player to make their own characters nowadays or was Icewind Dale was the last of a kind RPG?

You must mean party as most RPG's allow/make you create your own main character. Well you can create your own party in Baldur's Gate games as well using the multiplayer feature. All Spiderweb Software games have that option and they have quite few of them (Nethergate: Resurrection , Avernum series and Geneforge series). There's also Knights of the Chalice.
Don't remember others off hand from past decade at least. In most other party based RPG's you can only recruit premade party members.
The second expansion for NWN2 (Storm of Zehir) allows you to create your own party.
Is Knights Of The Chalice worth the money?
Wizardry 8 and Temple of Elemental Evil are also somewhat recent, being released in 2001 and 2003 respectively.

Ah, ToEE. Runs best with the fan patches by the Circle of Eight, or else I wouldn't bother.
In fact, they're working on "porting" The Keep on the Borderlands D&D module to the game.

It's matter of opinion and taste. It's hardcore combat oriented RPG and combat is hard and you will likely die a lot. There is a demo available so why don't you try it and see if you like it or not?

If you're a fan of combat-oriented, turn-based & party-based PC RPGs there is only one answer: HELL YEAH!
It's true that not everyone appreciates the low-res 2D graphics, somewhat intimidating interface and strange text font, but as far as the actual gameplay is concerned there simply hasn't been a better old school RPG in ages. The enemy AI in particular is really impressive, and you get at least 25 hours of adventuring and dungeon crawling out of this game (replayability is great too since you can try different party combos).
Also, a purchase of KOTC increases the chances that we'll get a sequel, which is supposed to include a level editor so that everyone can keep creating their own modules for years to come...

Cool. I thought the demo was pretty sweet but was worried the main game would be too short.
A remake of Dark Sun:Shattered Lands using this engine would be pants-wettingly-fan-feckin-tastic.
Cheers for the info.

I'd second this, I enjoyed it immensely.
Dang! Didn't know about all this games, thanks for info. guys. Hopefully one will be up my alley, more than likely Neverwinter Nights 2.
