Americana Dawn: A Sprawling Epic 90s Inspired RPG
"A Classic JRPG inspired by American folklore and history."
Liking the art style. Loving the concept. Some notes:
It will be available DRM-free to backers at least (specified in the $15 pledge tier).
Not an established studio, seems to be an amateur effort that began as a small project in 2012 to produce a freeware game. After some difficulties and the disbanding of the original team, the head of the project (Maxwell Tattnall) recruited new help and continued developing the project out of pocket. The scope of the game has expanded well past the initial plan, from a small experimental project into a full-fledged RPG, and she now hopes to raise funding to properly finish the game.
Listed estimate of completion: July 2017
From the project FAQ:
How will 70,000 fund 3 years of development?
Bit Bonton is a hobbyist group. We're not expecting Kickstarter to pay the rent, feed the kids and change the diapers. This money is used to compensate my team mates for their time.
At present, the project has raised $18,625 of the $70,000 goal.
tl;dr : Risky, a bit amateurish, 2017 release estimate, and unlikely to succeed without a significant push, but looks so good that I pledged anyway. If you can afford it, $15 might be a good gamble to help out a project that looks this interesting.
Also, KiteTales mentioned Maxxell being a good friend of hers, so the project gets bonus points in my book for that. :)
