I played both mechcommander 1 and 2, and now I've got a hankering for these two games. Any word on bringing them on gog? Has anyone else played them before?
both games are for free, so i dont know if it makes much sense to bring them to gog.
I would advise you to play mc gold, its an upgraded version of 1 with extra mission and differant difficult levels.
Great games, and available as freeware at various sites. Not going to link to them because I have no idea if they count as "abandonware" or if the devs/publisher actually released them.
As for likelihood of seeing them:
Published by Microprose. They are dead as hell, but seem to be part of Atari at this point.
Licensed material: That is never a good sign, since it means that the owners of the IP also need to approve. This is why it is very unlikely that we'll see any of the D&D games.
Sort of part of a reboot: the Battletech IP is being used for the new MechWarrior game. That is good (allow a GoG release to build up hype) and bad (means that the license hell is going to be even more intense because multiple companies are involved).
In all honesty, I wouldn't hold my breath. But I would love to see the Battletech games here.
They are indeed legally free.
Here, have some: http://mechcommander.org/
Thank you my friends!
On a similar topic, and it may have been mentioned elsewhere here, Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries has been released for free, legally, to build up hype for the supposed upcoming Mechwarrior game.
I think the upcoming game ran into licensing issues thought (some of the mechs look like some anime thing, and bitching is in progress), so who knows what is happening with it.
