Hi I would like to get into a good MMO game. But I am not a hardcore player. I also have a 3 year old laptop. So it cannot run the newest games. I like simple to learn to play the games. I prefer 2d. I also dont mind paying for such a great game. Thanks...

the only thing i can think of is tibia but it might be a little hardcore
I was going to suggest Guild Wars up until you said you prefer 2D games. Unfortunately, I can't really think of many 2D MMOs that aren't strictly F2P things like MapleStory.

But my old laptop (1.8GHz single-core, about 7-8 years old now) can run Guild Wars fine. It's a really fun game if you know some people to play it with or just want to take it on with henchman or heroes as your party.

Oh, and for a game - Maple Story. It's 2D :)
A lot of people still like Ultima Online, though they also argue that it's only fun on private servers that preserve the original state of the game. Ultima also has some contemporaries that I wouldn't recommend.

8bit MMO is pretty cool.

People also have a lot of praise for Haven and Hearth, which has an upcoming 3D counterpart called Salem.

Dofus and Wakfu are also really cool.

Then there are a ton of browser games which you could check out.
Forsaken World, although not 2D, is a decent enough free-to-play MMO. It's fairly newbie friendly, with ability to run on autopilot to quest locations etc.
I like Darkblood Online because I like its combat mechanics:

I think La Tale was okay too:

WoW is quite casual these days, do not require to much to run either. You can try the free trial to see how it is, 3D though.
Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO). It's free-to-play, has a rep for players being nice to MMO newbies, and a good tutorial. PvP (player-versus-player combat) is limited to one particular area of the game, meaning you only have to worry about AI baddies, not the player standing next to your character. Plus there's an actual storyline, which is very well done. I've run it on a six-year-old PC and a 4-year-old laptop with no real issues, it's been around for 5 years so is not too hard on graphics cards.

I don't like any of them. I don't like WoW anymore either, for that matter :) but this one was the most similar last time I played it.
