Hi all ..

What am I supposed to do with these 8 updates? I know there was 10 not to long ago. What is the procedure for dealing with updates. How do I / we know what has changed and what we are supposed to do? Is there a guide or tutorial someplace? Need to know .. Thanks!

go to your library and click on the new and updated button
download your new updated games and there you go

If there is a changelog for the game, it will be posted in the forum for the game. When you go into your library and click on a game, there should be a link to that game's forum. If there was a changelog, it is going to be a stickied thread.

To apply the updates, just download the latest patch or installer. The system has been known to glitch so make sure the files have actually changed before wasting time downloading the updates.

First of all .. A big Thank You to those who helped me out. What I meant about 10 updates, was 2 did go away, but can't remember what changed and set it to 8. If I click on an updated game, take a look around and go back out without downloading anything, does that reset the game so it doesn't show updated? Anyway, I'll go and see if I can figure it all out and find the change logs for the updated games. To bad the updated-game-change-log didn't land right in the library with the game itself.

Speaking of game updates, it would be nice if there were an official GOG game update log. A lot of times a game will update and one will have no idea what has changed.

The game's actual subforum will usually have a "New Update" sticky. A lot of times there's even a pretty good write up on what was changed. No always, but for big patches and the like it's usually there.

Also if you can't see the flags for what actually updated which sometimes happens, check the following thread since normally the info what was updated is posted there:

Yeah, I saw that thread before, but it really isn't an "official" thread. I know the GOG devs have to have some kind of real changelog that lists all the specific changes of each game, and it would be nice if everyone else on GOG could see the same log.

I really can't understand why GOG doesn't implement a proper changelog for game updates. This feature should be one of the easiest things to implement. You simply can't demand from a user, wether experienced or not, to dig deep into the forums to determine what the several flags mean, if it's just a change in the description, a new extra etc...
I understand that this wasn't GOG's top priority feature back in the day, but with GOG reaching almost 1000 games there is really no excuse for the current situtation.

Thanks folks .. I'll do what I can. I'll try one of the smaller size games first. It is almost mid-morning and the internet speed here will be slower then cold molasses running up hill in January .. The reason I try and stick with the older and smaller games.

I click the game book on the shelf, maniacally click everywhere on the menu that appears, invariably on a download link by mistake that I have to cancel, press F5 and ctrl + f5 repeatedly for a minute, keep clicking everywhere like I'm training for a starcraft 2 tournament game and then once in a blue moon the update notification goes away after restarting the browser and computer several times.

Just keep in mind that an "update" can also mean added extra content like a dev interview or new wallpapers or what have you. It can also be the Mac version of a game that you can ignore if you don't use a Mac.

Usually, I just grab the game, the game manuals and guides, or whatever. That is why I was interested in knowing about the updates and just what gets updated. It will be interesting to see how things go in the future. I think gog will have to implement some kind update notification service in the future. It will probably be (somehow) linked to one's game library / account.
