Ok, so the sale from Atari for The Witcher for $10 is a scam. I bouht it and they go through Digital River for their download service, Digital River charged and extra $10 without any authorization. There are many more complaints with Myord.com which is Digital River.

Stay away from anything involving Digital River like the plague, just warning everybody. I am sorting this with my bank right now and trying a chargeback but those are iffy.
The only time I ever had to deal with Digital River was when buying direct from the EA Store. There were no problems but then I expected that from the feedback I read about the EA Store. I wouldn't trust Atari to pull me a pint in a pub.
Indeed, well it turns out this was a charge for the EDS which is included already in the Atari charge. The game was $10 and $4 extra for Extended Download Service. They have a temporary $10 charge that should go away in the next 24 hours, that was in case payment didn't go through because it's pending now. So, will report in another day or so to let you all know.
Lesson though, Delixe was right and don't get your pants pulled down by Atari. Only go through Impulse, Steam, or the other official digital game setups like GOG.

Sourmash was having problems with Atari too.
But, despite not liking Digital River at all, like Delixe I've had no problems with EA Store. But I'd definitely avoid all other Digital River stores unless they're firmly vouched for.
Indeed the myord.com temporary charge is a scary thing to me, they could easily forget to take the charge away then I'd have to go to my bank for a fraudulent charge report. EA Store might be ok because EA is so huge if they get any problems they will sue Digital River into nothingness. that is a plausible theory.
Well the big difference is that EA have a competent customer support team specifically for online sales. Atari don't have any customer support whatsoever as Navagon pointed out in the gaming deals thread. If you have a problem with an EA Store purchase you can expect it resolved in a reasonable amount of time. With Atari you may as well pray to Budda.
Yep, Matrix Games uses Digital River for their web store as well. However, anyone who has problems can deal with Matrix directly and they get it sorted out.
So? if you're trying to buy Witcher on Ataris online store, buy retail for all those extra goodies.
Digital river are who microsoft go through for digital purchases, done business with them twice now (office 07 and win7) with no issues
I've used DR 2 or 3 times over the passed few years through as many different sellers.
Never had a problem with them.
Well, here is my take as I just purchased the complete Neverwinter Nights 2 catalog. As it is only digital download I got that with EDS option removed. I paid with paypal with atari cdn currency option and all went through with no issues or additional charges, only thing was it took a hour to process before my serials/download email was sent to me. So to sum up, I had no issues with this method and the 50% off is nice since I couldn't find NWN2 Gold anywhere new.
I ended up buying the Witcher from atari.com too but I didn't have the problem the OP had. I simply removed the EDS from the shopping cart and used the atari50 coupon. Maybe it was because I payed with PayPal.
Digital River works like Metaboli, except that their transactions take a lot more time to be approved. I was waiting for my confirmation e-mail almost 2 hours.
For anyone curious, you don't download the whole installer with your browser, you download a small downloader specifically for that game similar to GamesGate.
I got an activation number and a serial number. I think the serial is used to register the game at Atari.com site but the activation should be for installing the game. I hoped the game would be DRM-Free but now I'm not sure.

If they are still doing what they did when I bought the Witcher via the Atari store, the activation number is simply to "unlock" your download for installation (like a password protected archive) and is only needed once and never again. There is a DRM activation initially (that serial number), but once you apply the latest patch, it gets removed.

It's good to know that. Supposedly patch 1.4 turned the witcher into the Enhanced Edition and it removed DRM so it should be patched already because I bought the Enhanced Edition download but I'll wait until the download ends to test it.
Thanks for the info.
I think it might have been the 1.5 patch that removed the DRM, but I'm not sure, it's been a while since I even played the game.
