Hi all, today my old graphic card (GeForce 7600 GT) has died and I have to find a replacement.
Could anyone recommend me any not-that-much-expensive graphic card at least equivalent with my old one, or better? I run Windows XP, so the newer ones are out of question, I think.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: stupid Opera Mini. I wanted to mark it as question.
FFFFUUUU
Whats your budget ?
What resolution do you play at ?
A relatively inexpensive card would be an ATI 5770 if you don't require high resolution with all the bells and whistles :)
What's the rest of your system specs? There's no point in spending out on just the card if other things are slowing you down too.
Get an ATI 5770, several times faster, and very good card. BUT, it also depends on what your mainboard is and what version of PCI Express it supports. Also what your CPU is and your power supply what it can give in terms of power.
So, here is the rest of my PC (pretty low-end, mind you):
CPU: P4 3 GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR
MB: Asus P5VDC-X, both AGP 8x and PCI-E 16x (running at 4x according to manual)
Power supply: 350W
My available funds is something over 300€, however I won't spend it all, if possible and I am used to play at 1024*768.
Well, don't get the ATI 5770 then. I don't know why people are recommending that card anyway, but you've just confirmed it's a really bad buy.
Firstly, your PSU does rule out a lot of high end cards, and that includes the 5770. Especially with a P4. Secondly there's the fact that your system would bottleneck the card anyway.
So either go for a very cheap low end card that's little better than the one you're replacing, or seriously consider a more substantial upgrade of the whole system.
I would recommend HD 5570. Its very small, consumes little power, runs cool and quiet. Is about 50% faster than your old card, but your system still might bottleneck it. Costs around 70 euros.
Or you can get older and little bit larger hd 4650 at 40 euros. It is ~30% faster than 7600GT.
I got the HD 4670 a few months back for my system, which is pretty similar to yours. It's pretty cheap, has low power usage and will also give you a bit more umph
Realistically speaking, if you want a brand new card then you want to be looking at replacing the CPU (definitely seeing as it's a power hungry P4), mobo and RAM (you won't find a decent DDR mobo these days). Preferably also the PSU if it's old and/or unbranded
That's not going to leave a lot out of your budget for the card itself though. So your best bet would perhaps be grabbing something like the HD 4550 (which is about £25 here) and saving up for a new rig as and when you can afford it.
Good suggestions.
If you are definitely not going to upgrade CPU/MB/RAM/PSU in the near future, I'd go for a Radeon 5670/5570/4670/4650, scale to your budget. I think all of these cards are be bus-powered, and according to some random Google search results, they should all consume the same amount of power or less than the 7600 GT. Theoretically you shouldn't get problems with power consumption.

I don't plan any big upgrade now, although I am slowly saving for a new PC.
Anyways thanks everybody for your advices. Tomorrow I'll go shopping and buy something from what you have recommended.

The last thing I do before a purchase is look up the products I am interested in on Amazon and read the 1 and 5 star rating for the product . . . they hold nothing back . . .=)

The only problem with customer reviews is that they are often 1 or 5 stars. Reading the reviews would be more informative as they could just be being petty or fanboyish.
