StealthKnight: It's a weird thing that happens in all societies were people could act but don't. Who knows why but that is what separates the watchers from the rescuers.

michaelleung: reSTART: Net Addiction Recovery *chuckles*
I took there informal survey and I'm not an addict. The questions ask the same thing or ask three different things in one question. Here are some of the questions.
"10. Do you deny or minimize your Internet use to parents, teachers, schoolmates, friends, or professionals (this includes time, content, money expenditures, etc.)?
13. Have you ever stolen, cheated, or lied in order to fulfill your online desires (e.g., parents credit card to buy something for a game)?
9. Do you find that your Internet use is a way to escape problems or gain relief from negative feelings?
5. Do you continue to use the Internet and/or other forms of digital technology in excess, regardless of its harmful effects (e.g., relationship problems, failing classes, missing work, poor hygiene, weight gain or loss, etc.)?
3-4 "yes" responses suggest you may be spending too much time using the Internet or interfacing with technology"
I was only able to read the abstract of the survey to mentioned but it mentioned in a survey of 1800 people only 18 could be classified as addicted and two out of three of the tests they mentioned are not official or do not exist. 1.2% makes this a serious problem or so they say.
The website also tries to corroborate internet addiction with causing depression. Here is one of there 9 articles.
