I wanna get this game from GG, but I heard bad things about the DRM. Is it really that bad ? It's supposedly a one-time activation, and if that's the case, why all the controversy ? Or is there something else to it ?

I think that when it came out it had limited activations, but a patch removed those. Not really sure, can try searching for it to see if I recall correctly.
I think it originally had a limit of 10 activations or something. i forget now. I enjoyed the game myself and didn't care. I never noticed the DRM when installing and playing it. I recall posting on the Steam forums, who cares with that many activations? I cannot imagine playing the game more than maybe twice if that. I liked it but it isn't the kind of game you'd probably play a second time really. Once you know the story, etc. there isn't a lot of point to going back.

I had fun with this one and would recommend it despite the DRM which I don't think will ever affect you.

Your google-fu is certainly stronger than mine .

Steam discussion. Unsure if it also applies for the GG version, since the Technical FAQ is from October 10, 2012.

It most probably applies to the GG version, as it would be dumb otherwise :P

Thanks for the help .

Easiest and best solution would be to get it for the PS3 (of course, only if you have one?).
That way, you don't need to be worried about limited activations and you get a splitscreen coop-mode, which the PC-version is lacking.

I don't have a PS3... Although I have considered getting one . Also, the co-op mode is useless, as I don't have anyone to play it with .

Licurg:
Sorry Licurg,
forget what I said...Of Orcs and Men has no Coop-mode.

I mixed it up with another game (Hunted: The Demon's Forge).

Time to go to bed, I guess... :)

It would be dumb, but it's entirely possible that the DRM still exists on the GG version. I would rather be safe and not buy it on GG unless you get 100% confirmation. Some games have their DRM patched out on Steam, but have DRM at other places.

I'm guessing it still has ActControl DRM on GG, but it's just a hunch.

On the GG page it says so... Still, I was more worried about some always-online thing, I can deal with one-time activations .

I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did. I'd recommend trying it out with a controller btw. I found it easier and more fun to play that way. I really enjoyed the back and forth between the main characters, particularly the little guy. It's a very linear game but I thought it was fine in this case.
Of Orcs and Men DRM: STEAM (StarForce v5.70 + Custom Code)

Recommendation? Avoid it like the plague!

On Steam, yes, but I haven't seen confirmation that it was removed from the GG version.
