Okay so here is the point I wanted to ask you guys about.

In Oregon the drivers consistently driver 5-10 miles UNDER the posted Speed.

Example: I will be driving the posted speed of 35 MPH and come upon a moron who has taken it upon him/her-self to driver 10 MPH under the posted limit. NOW

Would this be breaking the law? NO. No I wouldn't consider driving under the speed limit to be breaking the law. Because there are times when it is necessary example: Police car pulled someone over, or School Zone. BUT to do it no matter what?! yes you Oregon Driver are now the worlds biggest idiot.

Is this dangering others? YES. Yes I believe that you the stupid moron that has decided to drive 10 miles under the speed limit are actually the danger on the road because your preventing the people who are attempting to drive the actual speed limit from doing so.

Not Only that But when your merging onto a freaking Highway you need to speed up to what the people on the damn road are doing which isn't 40!

I'd rather encounter people driving slow than people speeding. One's a nuisance. The other's a danger.

Yes I understand that but the point you missed was that this has to do with DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT not Going OVER the Speed Limit.

I actually never see anyone driving the speed limit. In Texas, they're all going over by at least 5.

Been driving in Oregon long?

Oregon's very aggressive about enforcing speed limits, and many places are notorious speed traps. California's "anything less than 15 over, it's not worth stopping you for" doesn't apply north of the Siskiyous. So a lot of Oregon drivers don't even push the limit.

Besides, it's a state that is not conducive to hurrying. Get on Oregon time.

Yes I've noticed that they are very aggressive about enforcing the speed limit but YOU CAN'T be pulled over for doing the Legally Posted Speed Limit.

You can be pulled over for the officer's reasonable suspicion that you were doing the speed he thinks you were doing, and you will have to convince a judge that your uncalibrated speedometer was right and Smokey's calibrated and frequently checked speedometer or radar gun was wrong. Good luck (and stay the hell out of Coburg).

Speed limits are "Maximum allowed speeds". They absolutely don't mean everyone HAS to drive at that speed, exactly. Just not over it.

I agree with Taleroth : slow drivers are a small nuisance, speeders are potentially killers.

I live in Oregon. Not born in, but I still live there. That being said, Oregon highways are either 50, 55, or 65. There is no 70 or 75 MPH. I-5, HWY 217, and US Route 26 are constantly frequented by County Sheriff's, State Police, and State Highway Patrols. They have unmarked sports cars, like brand new mustangs, that they use for highway enforcement. Most motorcycle cops are riding brand new BMW 1200cc bikes. So typically, we obey the speed limit (Except yesterday when I was going 75 down I-5 on my bike) and we carry that over to other states which typically have a higher speed limit on the freeway.

As for regular streets, I commute to downtown Portland almost every day to go to school at PSU. I encounter every driving condition within 20 minutes. The worst drivers are old drivers or people who are lost (ESPECIALLY downtown). Other times are when I get stuck behind a large vehicle, like an RV or something. Yesterday I was stuck behind a landscapers truck for a few miles who was going 10 MPH under.

But all in all, I would rather be around Oregon drivers than Washington State drivers.

Is Oregon better than california?

Most Cops wouldn't bother with trying to nail someone for doing the speed limit even in Oregon. But If my speedometer is off/incorrect then I would have absolutely no problem checking/getting ticketed for speeding because I'm in the wrong.

But again my complaint has to do with driving the actual speed limit.

Really? Around here cops hand out tickets for impeding the flow of traffic. Normally you don't have to worry about that if you're going the speed limit, but theoretically they could write the ticket if a lot of people are doing unsafe things to pass you. And they definitely will if you're going under the speed limit.

Personally, I'd rather have OR drivers and their slowness than CA drivers and their obvious death wishes clogging our streets with the side effects of overly aggressive driving.

There's a reason the previous poster mentioned Coburg. It's a city, in Oregon, notorious for using speeding tickets as the source of half their budget.

They will try to nail you for anything.
