There is so much buzz about Outcast. This has to be the most sought-after game they have released by far to date. Look at the wishlist. The same top ten have been there since I can remember. And, although in 10th place, Outcast is the only release I can remember that was a top ten most-voted title.
It makes me wonder about how it will all go down--will servers grind to a snail's pace? Will GOG make a huge amount in one day and decide to grow/expand faster? Will the joy of the GOG community create a karma wave that will end war? Fun to speculate.

That all really depends, I think, on how reliable the release is. There are a number of issues with the retail release that prevent proper playing of the game on systems we use today. If GOG did their standard fantastic job in getting the game running smoothly on modern computers? I expect a full-bore rush on their servers as everyone floods the tubes to purchase and download it.
If the gamebreakers are still in the game to an inconvenient degree (See: Interstate `76 release), then maybe not so much.

I am sure GOG will do fine. It's one of the few sites I can download at full speed for my connection as it is.
As for the game. I played Outcast when it was released, I found it over hyped pile of poo. Funny thing is the graphics that so many people at the time were raving about how advanced they were etc, and I still laughed with disappointment when I saw it running. Apparently most people on Gog seem to disagree. Good for them I guess since it is going to be released here soon.

Regardless, I shall finally be able to play this game and see what the fuzz is about.

I don't know if it is a big deal for GoG, but it's one for me.
I've always wanted to play that game, but at the time it came out I didn't have a computer capable of running it.
I do hope it works as well as it should, unlike Interstate '76, though.
As for being the first game on the top 10 coming out, that's deceiving, as Fallout 1&2 would certainly have made the top 10 if they hadn't been part of the first games released here.

I'm just wondering if the CDDA music will work. Since it added so much to the experience, I wouldn't be without it nor would I want others to experience Outcast without it.

An excellent point. I'm sure that many people joined GOG because of Fallout 1&2. Still, there weren't too many members when they were released. This is the first time such a popular game will be released to such a large base of users who have expressed strong interest.

Well, all I know is I didn't like it. Controls were horrible and the all the quests were basically talking to everybody in the vicinity. There also was a lot of hype concerning the multiple ways you could complete quests, but usually there just one good way of doing it. Still, the graphics are nice, certainly for that period and without a gfx-card. But graphics mean little to me.
The only thing I liked about it is that I bought it for €10, then it got kinda rare and sold it for €20.

A couple of those youtube videos showed a first person perspective can you move about and play in that mode or is it just a static aiming thing?

I played Outcast a couple years after it came out, and it ran like crap at its embarrassing maximum resolution of 512x384, probably thanks to its software rendering. The game was fun, but not fun enough to keep me trudging through it at 15fps.
I'm not sure what to expect from it on my current computer.
