RedRagan: It's not about the transaction though, it's about paypal itself doing shady or questionable stuff like freezing accounts who got flooded with money (for fundings or charity or kickstarters) and keep the money for themselves.

Foxhack: ... so don't use it to keep money. Use it to pay for stuff.

I'm well aware of their bullshit.
By encouraging people to pay for stuff using Paypal you are forcing people to recieve money through Paypal. Don't use it from either end!
I use it just as a transparent pass-through for my credit card.. it's ok I guess..

Do they have prepaid credit cards in Germany?

And do people from Germany think it's ridiculous that people call their country Germany? Why don't we call countries by the name that those in the country call themselves?
:)

Greetings!

As far as I know prepaid credit cards are not very popular, maybe even nonexistent. Most credit cards are linked to your bank giro account.
And don't worry I might be only speaking for myself but I think we are fine that we are called Germany.

Don't mention the war,
don't call us Reich and everything is A-OK.

:-D

P.S:
The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation has a nice ring to it, I wouldn't mind if we stick to that name but sadly I'm probably just a minority.

Naturius: .... i can not pay with paysafe. :( :( :(
Until a year ago I would have agreed and missed the Paysafecard option. But since last September PSC changed its payment terms to the worse. You are not allowed anymore to combine the amount of money from at least two PSC. Every sale most be paid from the amount of one card. So if the amount is below the price of an article you cannot use this card, only for articles that cost in total less than or equal the amount on this card.
Let’s say you want to buy a game for 5€, but your card only has an amount of 4.99€, this money is worthless except for articles that cost 4.99 or less. In general you can say, an amount of 2–5€ will be lost for every card.

They do not let the user combine the rest amount with the amount of a new 10€ or 20€ card. They tell you it’s because of new German law against money laundering, but that is utter bullshit, because the law is only to be used for amount higher than 100€ or 200€ (don’t know exactly). So they should at least allow you to bundle two cards with each of a maximum of 50€. But they don’t.

In fact, PSC bought in Germany are the only ones this rule applies. Cards bought in every other country (Austria, France, Poland, etc.) can be used like it was possible in Germany before September 2012.

So the only reason using a PSC left is either to buy something that matches almost exactly the PSC amount in price (likea 50€ article) or to use it for loading virtual wallets like the Steam wallet. You don’t get your money back, but you can spend all your money from the PSC onto articles (games) in Steam without leaving a rest amount.

GOG could offer such a wallet, that would be the only way I would use PSC here. But I think, VISA is just more comfortable …

HertogJan: Try http://www.mywirecard.com/
It's a German bank offering a virtual prepaid creditcard for online payment.
You don't get interest on the account and you pay a €1 fee for transfering money onto the account.
I've been using it for a some years now and am very pleased with it.
I had a look at this.
They say that there are no transaction fees unless used abroad - odd choice of wording, since the card is meant for online payments.
Since you've been using it, could you share your experience regarding this?

It would probably be way funnier to hear everyone pronounce "Deutschland" rather than "Germany".

It may feel a bit odd when a German realizes it for the first time that his country is known by an abundance of completely different names: Germany in English, Allemagne in French (similar in other Roman languages), Niemcy in Polish (similar in other Slavic languages), but that no language besides German uses a term that is even remotely similar to the one that we use ourselves. However, we usually notice that when we are kids, so by the time it might actually matter, we've grown used to it for a long time.

I actually tried addressing countries and cities by the names of their inhabitants when I was in my late teens. However, I after I while I found out that I prefer to be understood instead. ;) Also, I really found "Zhōng huá rén mín Gòng hé guó" much harder to correctly than "China". ;)

Doitsu (ドイツ) in Japanese is really close. :p

And we pay that back by saying something like (transcribed) "Yaapaan" instead of "Nihon" ... ;)
