Hey, I figured before I go to a more tech-specific website/forum to ask this I would try my luck within the community here at GOG.. I have a new GPU coming tomorrow but there is a current issue I need to figure out before it arrives. At the moment I have a GeForce GT 630 and it supports PCI Express 2.0. My motherboard also specifies it supports PCI Express 2.0. However, GPU-Z is reporting "PCI-E 1.1 x16 @ x16 1.1" which means it's reading my GPU as a PCI-E 1.1 spec and my motherboard also as a PCI-E 1.1 spec.. both are specified as 2.0 on their respective manufacturer websites..

I've tried checking my power options to see if PCI Express Link State Power Management was on, and it isn't. I also tried running various 3D programs and checking GPU-Z to see if the PCI-E 1.1 changed to 2.0 with no luck. I tried searching google and found no help for this issue, and so here I am..

Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Some extra information for you guys and gals... I have Windows 7, <i>FoxConn A78AX 3.0</i>, <i>ASUS GeForce GT 630</i>, and an <i>AMD Phenom II X2 550BE</i>.

Stupid question, but necessary IMO.
Did you stick it in the right slot?
According to the specs you have 2 PCI-E 1 slots and 1 PCI-E 2 slot.

Edit: Sorry, 2x PCI-E2 slots with x1 and 1x PCI-E2 with x16.
I misread.

The way I see it is that you only have one option and that is to stick it in the yellow slot.

so the render test doesn't change anything ?

i got an issue once, with an ati card, which wasn't properly plugged, (not a lot)

I have the card seated in the yellow slot, I'm pretty computer savvy if I say so myself.. but this one has me stumped.. I re-seated the card just to make sure and it still reports 1.1.. =/

And the GPU-Z render test changes nothing.

I wouldn't rely too much on what GPU-Z says though, it remains third party software.

Yeah.. I also ran CUDA-Z though and it somewhat verifies that my bus is running in 1.1 instead of 2.0 because I looked at the "Device to Host" throughput and it's pretty close to what the speeds are of PCI-E 1.1..

I guess when I get my new card tomorrow I will see if that fixes the problem.. it might just be that the card I have is bunk and the new one will work fine at 2.0... I dunno =/

Another thing to consider is some manufacturers release several revisions of the same motherboard with updated features. Usually there is a revision number on the board. Also, there may have been a BIOS update that enables 2.0 have you checked if you have the newest version.

first of all I'd go into BIOS and check if you don't have PCIe settings set to 1.1 (I've seen that before) - search all the menus, and if there's such option, you should choose 2.0 or "default"

Did you make sure the slot is set to PCI-E 2 in the BIOS? Also make sure the Control Panel for your card is set to use PCI-E 2.

Yeah, I should have bought an SSD and I should have gotten the PileDriver chip instead of the Bulldozer chip.. I know.. the PSU is ok though.. I know seasonic is really good along with antec and sometimes corsair..

Part of my purchases were due to being in a rush and the other part due to mistakes and not enough planning.

But I think the rig will be fine for what I plan to do with it. =)

If I could go back and do it again I would get an SSD, a Vishera, and a SeaSonic PSU. But... my parts are 2 hours away from my house due to be here in ~12-16 hours x.x

Although I did some after-purchase research and the CPU I got will be on par with the Vishera chip if I can get to a decent OC on it, which I think I can do with the Hyper 212 EVO I got for that...

The VelociRaptor will do ok too I suppose... it's not an SSD but it's not terrible either.. (Plus I got it on sale for $40)

No excuse for the PSU... I just picked it lol
