I'm hoping that someone in the GOG community will have encountered and solved this problem in the past.

=== TL; DR ===

I have two new MicroSoft X-Box 360 Wired controllers, when both are plugged in only the last one to be attached functions.

Both display the Player 1 light on the guide button.

The controllers are being used with an X-Box 360 not a PC.

=== Full details ===

Recently (This week) I bought two wired x-box 360 Controllers to replace two older failing ones.
(I like Wired better, no batteries! ^_^ )

These controllers are being used with an X-Box 360, not a PC.

When either controller is plugged in they appear to function perfectly. ^_^
(All button inputs work no problem from what I can tell.)

However, if a second is plugged in both show that they are player one on the guide button light display on the controller.

With two controllers in only the one that has last been plugged in functions, the other doesn't seem to produce a response when any keys are pressed.

When I plug one of my older controllers in with one of the newer controllers the old controller becomes player 2 and the two new ones still both become player 1.

The two brand new new controllers are MicroSoft Wired Controllers, the two old (Broken...) ones are both Razer Onza Tournament Editions.

I've already tried searching the net for a solution and have encountered a few post/threads/vids/etc mentioning a similar problem unfortunately without giving a solution. >_<

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, this has got me rather depressed. T_T

Isn't the guide button supposed to cycle the I.D. of the controller if you hold it?

thought that was only with the wireless controllers
Are you using standard drivers or the newest Xbox Controller driver update. (1.2)

Ah sorry, I overlooked that line. xD
New Information:

#1
I've tested both controllers on the PC, and they work correctly assigning themselves to player 1 & 2.
(Odd they function on the PC but not the device they were designed for!?)

#2
It was suggested on another site that a fix for this was to plug one controller into the front USB ports and one into the back USB ports on the XBox 360 so that they would be seen as different devices... unfortunately this did not solve my problem. (If anyone else encounters this they should try that though, it has worked for others from what I've read.)

Thanks for giving it a try.

Sadly that was indeed only for wireless controllers, if you press the guide button on a wired controller it just asks if you want to shutdown the XBox.

Random information:
The Microsoft controllers are much more comfortable in the hand than my old Razer Onza ones... ^_^
(Aside from the problem I'm experiencing I would recommend them, very nice.)

how odd
considering they register correctly on the pc id have to say that the problem is with your 360

do you know anybody with a 360 ?
try it on their machine

Vexingly I don't. XD
(No one close enough anyway.)

Could be, >_< strange that all my other non-microsoft controllers still assign themselves correctly with the XBox 360. XD

I'll keep digging and post if I find something. ^_^

^ thast the only awnser i can think off especially if they identify correctly on your pc
Alright I found a solution, of a kind.

My research has yielded the following information.

Neither my X-Box 360 or the Wired controllers are broken... However the version of X-Box I have is not compatible with the Microsoft wired controllers. (Ridiculous but true.)

The 3rd party controllers have been built to deal with this problem already. It has something to do with the USB ports all being seen as the same ID or... something. (From what I've read.)

(For the curious: X-Box 360 Slim models are among those effected by this.)

Vexingly I did not find a perfect solution, I can still only use one of the Wired controllers at a time on the X-Box.

-=Solution=-(Of a kind...)
The way to get 2 Wired controllers with no batteries on a X-Box 360 that rejects double Wired is as follows:

Since plugging in both Wired controllers isn't going to work sadly a 3rd controller will be required and additional parts.

Using a Wireless controller and the Microsoft Microsoft Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit it is possible to play without using any batteries. (Including the charge pack that comes with the kit.)

Instead of attaching the rechargeable battery that came with the kit to the wireless controller, remove any batteries you have in the default battery chamber on the wireless controller. Now connect the power wire to the controller and the wireless controller will be able to function whenever it is plugged into your X-Box. ^_^

It still transmits the information wirelessly though, the cord is only supplying the controller with power.

Both the Wired and Wireless controllers are seen as separate devices so they assign players correctly without a problem. ^_^
(Only devices connecting via the USB ports will encounter the compatibility error.)

When your done make sure to unplug the wireless controller before turning off the X-Box.

The X-Box 360 will not fully power down while a Play and Charge wire is connected to it, it will continue to supply power to the controller. This is part of a feature so that it can continue to recharge the charge pack. But since there is no charge pack in the controller, it's best just to unplug it completely when done. ^_^

So that's it, not perfect but no batteries. ^_^
(And I can use the other Wired controller with my PC or as a spare for my 360, so it isn't a total loss.)

Thank you everyone who posted suggestions, Rock on! ^_^
