Hello everybody!

I recently played Two Worlds 2 and after finishing that I went to Divinity 2. In both games I have the same problem:

The videos stutter horribly. It's like it plays 15 frames, then hangs a moment and then continues. I could live with the stuttering of the images, but the sound is extremely choppy due to this problem.

Both have have in common that vids are in WMV format. I tried playing them outside the game - and they work fine in Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic Home Cinema and VLC. The choppiness only occurs when they are played by the game.

Has anyone experienced this problem? And maybe found the reason or a solution?

System specs:
AMD Quadcore 3.4GHz
4 GB RAM DDR3
ATI Radeon 5770 1GB
Windows 7/64

I have the K-Lite codecs installed (for other stuff I need) but they never gave me any trouble. The games are running fine too - except for the cutscenes.

A rather high resolution could be the problem. Maybe unoptimized video scaling brings the system to its knees.

The resolution is 1080p, both in desktop and in the games. And I have no problems playing the videos fullscreen with any player.
try to disable AA and shadows, maybe bloom too if that is an option, see if situation got better
Did you close any other additional programs running in the background? Video playing can be taxing on the GPU.
Only ever had this problem with one GOG game, and I solved it by reinstalling .

He's talking about pre-rendered cutscenes so graphics settings shouldn't have any impact on their playback.
Eh excluding the game executables from FFDShow?
I vaguely remember having to do that once.

surprisingly, sometimes they still do

worth a try, in any case
Maybe the game files have some programs you can install, special versions of codecs, DirectX, etc.

This sounds like something to try. I already tried switching the media splitters (ffdshow, Haali,... ). Will give it a try as soon as a can.

I don't think so, but I will take another look.

I excluded wmv3/9 (the video format) from ffdshow entirely. No change :-/

Somehow the games play the videos kind of differently than the average media player, when the former play stuttered and the latter don't. I tried to alt-tab out the game when the video was playing to try to catch some codec/filter/splitter tray icon - no success. Either there is none or it disappears too fast.

Looked, but there was nothing there.

Well I don't use codec packs anymore so I don't have FFDShow, but I meant as in this topic.. I think.

VLC + K-Lite = codec spaghetti. :^)

It shouldn't make any difference if I exclude some executable or the format. I've just deinstalled K-Lite and will see where it goes from there, but I don't have much hope.

No. VLC brings it's own codecs that don't interfere with anything installed in windows. That's perfect for an allround, even portable app. But it doesn't help if you want to play some format that VLC can't understand (since it ignores the installed codecs) or the other way round doesn't help Windows to generate thumbnails for mkvs.
