I have no TV. I am playing my PS3 connecting to my monitor. For sound i used the RCA cable to connect my 5+1.(I don't have optical input in my speakers) This way you can't use 5+1 but only 2 speakers. It is not important but the matter is sound really awful.

Why is that? What is a solution to that. I saw an adaptor:

Sound is awful in what way? Crackling, buzzing, pops, etc., or just missing the 5.1 goodness?

Is there a setting on the PS3 to tell it you're using stereo instead of surround? I don't own one so just throwing it out there...

No not buzzing or crackling but quality is awful.
