Ghorpm: Me and my friends are talking about Witcher games right now (pizza evening) and we are genuinely interested how is it to play those games without reading novels first. Virtually every second dialog contains some references to Andrzej Sapkowski's novels so we would like to know whether it bothered you or not that you had no idea what they were talking about. True, Geralt suffers from amnesia so it may help you to feel exactly as he is supposed to feel but on the other hand there are so many references that we thought it could be a bit irritating after a while. Since we can only speculate I decided to ask this question here. We also realized that there is a drawback of knowing Witcher novels: it can spoil the game a bit, especially in those morally difficult choices concerning Scoia'tael and Order of the Flaming Rose - I usually made my choices based on the knowledge from the book and not the game.
So, did it bother you or not? I hope you can satisfy our curiosity ;)
PS In Polish version (that's one of a very few games that I prefer to play in Polish rather than English) there are some references to real life people and situations (e.g. Ramsmeat or
Spieprzaj dziadu!) but they are sparse and not really important.
There were references? Unless you've read the novels, you wouldn't know they were references at all. I'm not sure why one would assume otherwise.
Sure you might notice that something is a bit odd or cleverly worded, but in general references aren't any different from any other idiomatic or cliched phrasing.
