Since I am finishing Alpha Protocol, I already got bored of RDR (I hate, I HATE sandboxes) and nothing else sits on the horizon I figured it's time to get back to PSX.
That being said, does anyone have any recommendations for a good rpg? I realize that this forum is mainly dedicated to PC gaming but still.
I've played and finished FF7-9 + FFT, Legend of Mana, Xenogears, Suikoden 1. I played and liked but got bored of Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story (which is more of a hack'n'slash than a rpg, imo) and Grandia (the latter mainly because of a RETARDED protagonist with a stupid hat and a really, REALLY slow beginning that managed to put me off the game). I also remember playing Jade Cocoon but never liked it as it had that "FF rip-off" vibe. As for Lunar I played the refreshed version by XSEED on PSP earlier this year but it didn't hook me up.
So, any recommendations? I'd like something with a good storyline as it's something that makes or breaks a RPG for me. Legend of Dragoon? Wild Arms? Brave Fencer Musashi?
Thanks!

This is not legal, by the way.
Just remove the PSP part and it will be :D Do you have Crisis Core for PSP itself? It's awesome. For a reason unknown, I like more than original FF7. Oh and there's also FF7 itself of course
Okay, I did change it but since I was asking for game titles I don't see how the PSP part was a problem.
I have CC, I finished it twice. As a rabid FF fanboy I found it delightful :)

Gundato: This is not legal, by the way.

He could buy those off the internet or from the psn store so don't jump to conclusion.
As for rpg's:
Legend of Legaia- Tough rpg that has an interesting story. Plenty of twists and turns.
Alundra2_ action rpg- Gameplay is fun
Eternal eyes- SRPG. The story didn't seem like much but the gameplay is good. I have not played it in a long time.
Guardian hero- Story was decent, gameplay was fine. It's been awhile so the game may be better then I remember it.

Jade Cocoon, a FF rip-off? Seriously? Anyway...
Vanguard Bandits
Koudelka
Guardians Crusade
Valkyrie Profile is somewhat awkwardly paced, and you'll never find the good ending without a FAQ (it's not difficult, just very precise and near-impossible to trip over by accident), but it's great stuff and well worth playing. You most definitely want to go for the good ending, though.
Alundra is an interesting Zelda-ish game that's mainly notable for being one of the few games I can describe as "depressing." It's a slow creep of gloom and misery the whole way through (well, technically I didn't finish it, I think I got stuck in the final dungeon). More games should experiment with that sort of tone.
If you've got a PS2, Disgaea is brief but a lot of fun. Of course, Atlus published it, so you'll probably never find it.

That was years ago so I might've mistaken it with Legend of Dragoon. I am pretty sure one of those was a blatant "me too" jrpg. I do seem to recall that Jade was fully voiced, which I like. Anyways, thanks for the recommendations. I'll google them up. I remember Koudelka (mainly because there's a ski jumper with that name and he didn't let me forget through all those years, lol) but I've never played it.

Actually I've played the refreshed version of VP on the PSP. I also played VP2 on PS2. I love the setting in both of them and the character designs but the time limit thingie in VP1 and the stuff connected with sacrificing your Ejnherjar to Odin put me off. I liked it though.
As for Disgaea I am a sucker for sRPGs so I own and finished all three parts. It's not that brief though as the grinding possibilities and Item Worlds are endless.

I'd recommend Wild Arms I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't bother with Legend of Dragoon it was a bit meh.
Have you tried the Breath of Fire games they we pretty good although I never finished either.

Actually I've never played any of the BoF games. Do you have any suggestions about which part is the best? Was it the 3rd?

3 probably edged it if you can cope with the quite aged graphics, a bit of a strange isometric attempt. I tried to get back into it again last year and managed to get further than I did the 1st time. I should really go and polish it off soon.
I've just remembered a couple more, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain for something a bit dark and different and Star Ocean the Second story real time battles like the tales of... series and I quite enjoyed the sci-fi twist to the story.

Obligatory Persona 2 mention: Innocent Sin has now been fan-translated, so go play it if you haven't yet. And then the 'second part' Eternal Punishment.
I've heard the SaGa games are good. Legend of Mana is awesome, too.
What about FFTactics (particularly the PSP remake, War of the Lions?) and Front Mission 3 (wanzers!)?
Yes, get Legend of Legaia. One of my favorite games ever.
Play Parasite Eve. Don't care if you got bored. Keep playing. :)
Legend of Legaia is sweet...traditional JRPG with fight mechanics...Wild Arms...
Jade Cocoon is a Pokemon rip off but a good one...
Tactics Ogre...
Breath of Fire 1 is easily the best I think...I know it's stupid cause I've only really played that one...but from what little I've played/seen of the others, just doesn't have the magic. 1 is perfect, it's magic. You need to play it.

The time limit never bothered me. I always finished what I needed to do in each phase well before the time limit ran out. I agree that the whole "we need an archer who can swim and play tennis" was a bit aggravating, but it's a minor annoyance.

That's all optional, though - you can spend a lot of time grinding in most JRPGs, if you want, it's just that Disgaea makes a fuss about it. I spent an inordinate amount of time in the item world, I admit, but you don't need to, and the campaign doesn't take too long to finish.
Unless you've never played Square's reissued SNES games (which are sort of rubbish on the Playstation anyway), I can't really think of any other decent story-focused RPGs that haven't already been mentioned. The King's Field games and the Wizardry spinoff are solid, but they're niche titles, and most emphatically not story- or character-driven.
