Tim Schafer, Tim Schafer!

Broken Age Season Pass, granting you access to the both episodes of the Double Fine's big-budget adventure game, that was made famous by Kickstarter and made Kickstarter famous, is now available for Windows and Mac OS X, 33% off on GOG.com. That's only $16.74 for the next 48 hours!

The first graphic adventure by Tim Schafer in sixteen years, [url=http://www.gog.com/game/broken_age]Broken Age began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. Now it's here in all its beautiful, 2D, hand-painted glory, with an original orchestral soundtrack and an all-star vocal cast. Broken Age is a timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons. Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are two teenagers in strangely similar situations, but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow.

Your purchase of Broken Age Season Pass gives you instant access to the game's (already released) first act, and will allow you to play its (already funded) second act, as soon as it's ready (later this year). Until Saturday, April 5, at 9:59AM GMT you can get the season pass 33% off, that is for only $16.74.

Hillsy_: Pass, thanks. 'This one really hard puzzle that you won't get but you'll look it up online and not tell anybody.'

Who writes this stuff...
Tim Schafer.

htown1980: Oh my goodness. This is amazing. I have been called Htown for over 20 years and have never heard of these guys. I wonder if they are the reason I couldn't get the email address htown@hotmail.com back in the 90s.
Haha :) Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, that could be - it seems like they were fairly popular at the time, even though I don't remember hearing them on the radio back then (I first heard it just a few years ago).
Looks pretty fun, and I'm a big fan of Tim Schaffer's old work. I'll wait until it's a full game before I buy though, but definitely wishlisted until then. Thanks GOG!

szparanGoG: Thanks for the explanation. I was really confused about all this thing of 'season pass'. It seemed to me that I only could play the game for some months and then goodbye. So basically it's a new term for preordering a series of short games.
Hmm, I'd never thought of it that way. Thinking of it without prior knowledge I can easily see how you could think that. "Season Pass" Not such a good term to use after all.

zeffyr: Nice price there, but few goodies... Don't forget about them! :>
avatar
JudasIscariot: Well, considering that most, if not all, of the goodies were Kickstarter backer rewards, it's going to be difficult, more like impossible, to get them here. Sorry :(
Frankly, I don't understand why devs can't bring those goodies here. OK, they were for backers, so they were enjoying them for few months longer as well as they were supporting the creation of a game.

Anyway, for sure there's some possibility to create some goodies for GOG exclusively, I guess?

PMIK: Great "Lucasasrts" style adventure game. The cliffhanger ending is a killer though! Can't wait for Act 2!
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Would you be so kind and elaborate on "Lucasarts" style please?
I mean it has similar dialog trees, similar inventory puzzles, no dead ends or deaths, sense of humor.

Many other P&C adventures are in this style also but the early lucasarts games pioneered it. Compared to say, the Sierra style of adventure games, or the Tex Murphy style, or "telltale" style (which has in itself changed dramatically, with early telltale games being quite similar to "lucasarts" style but their later games like the walking dead, have developed their own style"

Damn you, Tim Schafer, I couldn't resist you any longer.

All of those goodies were explicitly paid for by backers, though. How would you feel if something you paid $300 for is now being given away for a fraction of that price? Believe me, we don't like not having all of those goodies, either, but we can't ask that someone makes backer rewards rewards for everyone as it would defeat the purpose of backer rewards.

As to creating exclusive GOG goodies, that's up to the individual developers, not us.

I don't mean goodies coming with backing 300$. But what I see, backers who paid 30$ (that's only 5$ more than regular GOG's price) got soundtrack, documentary and documentary's soundtrack. Bringing OST or a documentary here would be a nice addition ;-)

The soundtrack is actually sold here :

https://doublefine.bandcamp.com/album/broken-age-original-soundtrack

so the soundtrack being sold basically rules out it being here as a free bonus :(

Let me see if I got you right - you have no problem for devs to give away (potential) backers only goodies and at the same time request GOG exclusive ones?

Regarding Broken Age in specific - the documentary will be sold by 2 Player Productions at a later date, so you'll have a chance to get it if you're so interested. There's a good chance that the documentary soundtracks will also be sold separately (maybe on Bandcamp just like the game OST).

And FWIW, it's not about the cost of backers rewards, it's about the principle - I don't support exclusivity of rewards or content or whatever, but if something was promised as such then, imho, they should keep their word.

EDIT: correction on soundtracks availability.

I'm not telling that we should get all the contents which backers got. But some of that - why not?

About exclusive goodies - I'm thinking about sth like few more extra wallpapers or avatars, not that we should get extra-exclusive-for-gog-only documentary - that wish would be ridiculous :>

That would be a nice addition, nothing else :) And I'd like to underline that - I understand all your points! :)
Amazing release from masters of adventure games.
Somebody already commented on the bulimic thickness of the legs of the girl? I personally find that a bit overdone. A bit more meat might look more pleasant although it is a typical style in a comic like environment.

The reviews of this game are full of praises, yet the reception in this thread is rather lukewarm. I think I'll still get the game while it comes with a discount. I've been itching for a good adventure game for a while.
