GG has Saint's Row 2 going for £3.48 atm, it does require Steam, which I'm not too fond of but I do have an account due to some Humble Bundles and Skyrim, so is the game worth it.

Is it fun to play? I've not done much reading on this franchise and I've never played any of them, what is Saint's Row?
My girlfriend says, Saint's Row 2 is the best of the series. But I have no clue what it is like, sorry.
I think the consensus was that it is a very good GTA clone with a completely botched PC port. Haven't played it myself.
Played it and felt that it was absolutely awful. Maybe it is the shoddy port, but it handles like crap on a PC.
At first it handled like crap on my PC, but thanks to some mods it was made entirely playable and very enjoyable. If you want a humorous take on GTA, you can't do much better than SR2.

So, I loved the game, but the PC port takes some finagling to get it to work properly for almost anyone.
What specs are your PC? If you can't somehow get the speed of your CPU to as near to that of the 360, then game is going to play like utter crap. It is one of the worst ports in existence.

I would strongly recommend reading this topic http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1715922 before deciding to buy.
I probably would've enjoyed it if the controls weren't so borked up that i had to stop playing after 2 hours.

Supposedly there's a fanpatch somewhere that fixes this, i heard
Lots of people say that once you play SR3, you understand how bad SR2 sucks. Personally I am waiting for SR3's price to fall.

SR3 is well worth the asking price (it's also on sale for 50% off on GamersGate either already or over the weekend). I've easily put in over 80 hours on that game, and enjoyed every second of it.

I'm running a Q9550 @ 3.4 with 8 gb ram.

I read that thread.. GOD LORD, look at all the issues with the game, why the heck wasn't it ever patched, it was a popular enough game at the time.

Anyway.. thx for the replies everyone.. even at £3.48 I'm not going to bother, just seems too much BS attached to playing it and I hate supporting a company that won't release something in a good, playable condition.

Somewhat this. I got Saint's row 3 and got SR2 free during that time frame they were offering. I played 3 first then 2. I must say I loved SR3 more than 2. It wasn't too bad, but the controls were awkwardly different and took some getting used to. Missions were meh. Just wait til prices to fall to get SR2, same with SR3 if you can; all in all you will love SR3 and I enjoy it more than GTA - guess due to the humor aspect of it and the customization.

I wouldn't mind giving £15 for it, if it weren't for my current financial situation and for the fact that I have too many games already. Moreover, it has a trunkload of DLCs (so I'm waiting for their circle to close) and for some reason, I cannot seem to fathom why is it so fun to beat up strangers in the road using dildos.

IIRC, that's something CD Projekt Red would have to answer as they were responsible for the port. It's possible had the port been done in-house by Volition, it would have been far more playable. They did excellent ports of both RF:A and SR3 after all.
Games works fine for me and its miles better than GTAIV, god that game was horrible compared to San Andreas
Its not bad, picked it up for about £3 in a Steam daily deal few weeks back. Its one of those games where you can just pick it up and play around doing whatever you want or progress the story a bit by doing missions. Play as much or as little as you please. It is a bit of a GTA clone in all fairness but at least it is fun and runs fine.
