All kids nowadays don't seem to have modest respect anymore. They smack talk in games or over internet with a security layer that keeps them safe and getting away with such behavior and it's bugging the hell out of me. This can get a little long so bear with me I'm on cough medicine making me feel good because of a wheeze I caught.
Everyone has ran into these people, not all of them are kids by the way. The thing that gets me is in real life I would and could beat these people to death, literally with my hands, for saying the stuff they do about my mother yet they say these things and nothing happens. Even their parents don't step in. Is there any real way to deal with these people, as ignoring them is impossible for the most part because even the most hardened person will crack at some point and start a "flame".
Now, people over internet bugging me is minor. But this attitude transfers outside to real life and makes for a nasty new bunch of kids. that is the main problem. Bad parenting is part of it, after the baby boomers a ton of extra-marital births began and sloppy parenting of the average family as we see it today has taken root. But another issue at hand is how we treat others. My father has told me back in the older days he could talk to people on street, nowadays it's a no-no because many of them are peckerheads. I've experimented with this and out of 20 tries to talk to someone on the street twice I was told to "shut up" after just saying "hi" without any tone and with a smile. This is nearly the same thing that happens when you join a server and on all talk type "hi all" and half the time one person will respond with "STFU" "Shut up" "---- off" or any other phrase that's offensive on CSS, BF2142, and BF: BC2. I don't want to get started on XBox Live, it's a part of life on Live that half the server wants to desecrate your mother if you believe what they say and the reason I'm not going to buy a 360.
Does anyone else get annoyed by this attitude people are picking up in the past 2 decades? It's like an author wrote once, if everyone carried a gun then we would be a lot more polite to each other on the street because one would need to back up his word. While that's not feasible to give everyone a gun since there are idiots running around, there has to be a way to make people accountable for their behavior on the internet. I would like to see a way for this to happen, but for now I settle by dreaming of the day I can reach my hand through a punks monitor on his daddy's PC and strangle him slowly for talking bad things about my momma.
Umm... isn't this a given? People are jerks over the Internet. These people will be jerks in real life. Of course it's not always like that, it could be because they're assholes in real life that they're dicks online. It's just like that whole video games cause real world violence bullshit.

Missing the point completely. I was wanting to discuss that if holding people accountable to their words was possible would it make a difference, and it would be a good or bad difference? Games are not causing violence but they are allowing people to get away with smack talking that would get them beaten to death in a bar or street in real life, they do this long enough they start doing it in real life. That is the problem.

They can be annoying but in game I make liberal use of the mute function if implemented and if not I either (a) mute them as I have admin controls or (b) switch the server.
I haven't ran into that kind of people in real life fortunately but I'd keep my calm and just ignore them. Had great talks with strangers in pubs and clubs but those are the places where people generally go to meet new people so it's to be expected.
Now, if you caught me in a bad mood on the street and stopped me just to say "Hi" then yeah, I might either look funny at you or reply something less than nice. The street isn't the place to make new acquaintances.

I think it will make a difference. You can't change people just because you have a gun or you know where they live. Everyone says they know where you live online, and they'll come over and rape your mom and hack into your computer (see internet tuff gai) but you can change them if you do know where they live and you go there. Or just do something like call them or something that bursts their bubble of anonymity.

I doubt that accountability is going to do much of anything. Look at the world we're living in these days, no one is accountable. More so if you happen to be famous/influential/have connections.
If you can't hold a politician accountable for "indirect" lies, police officers and/or army personel for being a little too heavy handed or in breach of conduct.. Well. Lead by example. For a while, the examples haven't been there.
It's a host of things, though. Bad parenting could be a cause, friends kept outside of the family home, anonymity of the internet, people being too scared to verbally berate someone offensive.. Bleh.
Tru dat dawg, dat der fags gotta get der asses whupped, cant talk shit irl, gotta STFU, so dey come to da world wide web, and talke der shit here.
I present you stonebro's First Theorem of The Intarweb:
Normal person + complete anonymity = complete dribbling jerkoff.

Another, much more intelligent, author said "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind".
Oh, and your momma so fat that her muscle to fat ratio can only be expressed in irrational complex numbers.

And I preset to you the internet fuckwad theory:

It is annoying but I've really barely come across. It's like hackers, they seem to run away whenever a join a server :P

You shouldn't brandish your BanHammer like that.

That one is funny and is much more clear than I was.
The culture here is somewhat different. I'll just relate a little anecdote to you. Why? Don't know, maybe because it's somewhat relevant, but more importantly I just feel like ranting.
So here it goes. There are a lot of little punks here in Singapore with this particular attitude too, that when you play certain games - including DOTA, CS and other "hip and trendy" games - they start hurling vulgarities as if their vocabulary is limited to words starting with F (and C and K for those who understand the Chinese's Hokkien dialect).
You may think this is all virtual reality. But no, this directly transcends to real life. I just went to have a session of LAN gaming with some good buddies, and sitting beside me was this group of kids - I guesstimate no older than 16 years old - screaming and yelling vulgarities like the world would come to an end if they didn't. They were tattooed, smelled of cigarettes, and probably still schooling and sucking on bottle teats. They were all tough and mighty in the way they carried themselves, as if using explicit language for everything elevates their social status. Thing is, if I got into a brawl with a group of them, I'd probably end up ripping out some guy's ear and eat it; the rest of them would probably run away like the cowards they really are.
One observation I've made is that, as you mentioned, the virtual reality attitudes of this "new" generation often carries over to real life as well. I've seen before fights that never took place because both parties (of which both are young punks) are too afraid to make the first move. Having come across such people's blogs before too, where they crank up the notch on the smacktalk, it's led me to believe that there's definitely a parallel between online and offline behaviour, at least for my country. Online, they hide behind anonymity. Offline, there's safety in numbers. They can afford to behave like absolute twats and retarded scum, and get away with it.
Generally, society's ethics are becoming increasingly cancerous everyday. I'd like to quote something interesting from a Conan story that relates how I feel:
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing."
this even happens irl. people are way more likely to be dicks on the road because you don't see other people, you just see cars.

tb87670: Snippity.

As a 'child', fuck you. (had to do that since I have a security layer.)
As a mature-ish young man, I have to agree with the moronic antics of some people I know (And that is the reason I refuse to play multi-player.) Too many times I get on the internet and some douche is up my ass with annoying spam messages and the such (Thanks Xfire for letting 12 year olds join clans...) that I just tend to stop using gaming services and the such. I should really reorganize this rant...
