You can get the Civ games world wide (as far as I know) from GamersGate too, but you can't on Steam. Seeing as Civ 5 is now a SteamWorks infested title, no other DD service will touch it.... And as I said before, as all other Civ games are restricted on Steam, it doesn't look good for those of us affected by the restrictions.
And even though a purchase button is currently displayed for all regions, I would advise those living in regions where the other Civ games are restricted, to refrain from pre-ordering Civ 5 on Steam. Otherwise, you could wind up with an IP blocked game that you will not be able to unlock.
And if 2K really do release it worldwide, no harm is done really by not pre-ordering it as it doesn't have a price reduction (outside of the UK).

Ah yeah, it was Gamersgate. I've been wanting to buy some games from them, just to see what their service is like. Anyone that has gotten some games from them got any remarks about them? Do they require a client? They seem to be worldwide too.
Yeah, that means that it's the best business model for steam, a developer/company makes their game steam only = Valve is the only source you can get it from. That's a monopoly phone companies would love to have.

Why is it that I don't use Steam?

GamersGate are fairly good if you don't mind SecuROM =) They don't require a client to be running while you play games purchased from them, but you will need to download their downloader which will, naturally, download then install the game.
When DRM is used, it is generally a light version of SecuROM. There are zero activation limits (even when publishers enforce them, GamersGate support will simply reset the limit for you should you run out).
Their download speed has also improved and is generally comparable to that of Steam (at least in my case when connected to their US based servers). They also have servers in Europe.
I'll happily explain more about GamersGate later if you still wish, but I'm really bloody tired now so I'm off to bed.

also many people seem to miss the point which is that 2k normally use securom and are very annoying with it aka bioshock and thier other games

Gamersgate is a generous and above-board outlet, and my first choice for games that GOG doesn't have. As bansama notes, they don't require a client, but I will say that their install authenticator can be a pain in the ass when you're trying to back up your downloads (it doesn't work from read-only media). Fortunately, though, you can strip off the GG wrapper entirely after the game is downloaded and be left with a free-standing installer, but that's not intentional and is something that they will most likely put a stop to eventually.

Oh come now you exaggerate. Valve is an excellent company as long as you follow some simple rules:
1) Never have technical issues
2) Live in america
3) Have broadband and lots of bandwidth
4) Aren't interested in half life 2 episode 3

Strange, I've had both technical issues, I don't live in America, don't have broadband and lots of bandwidth and am interested in Episode 3 and haven't had a problem with Steam starting from around the launch of The Orange Box. See how the whole "personal experience as an argument" works? Oh, wait, it doesn't.

Sad about it using steamworks.
Having to have a 3rd party program running is an annoying form of DRM.
Especially since I have no want or need of whatever services that steam provides, and of course while they still link it all to the store, it's anti-competitive.
