Roman5: Do we actually NEED Mac games here on GOG? Really?
I wouldn't mind seeing the first Journeyman Project (Prime something something) here, running on ScummVM.

rice_pudding: The general consensus among newer generations in the film & TV industry is that the only way is Mac. Somehow this opinion has gradually managed to pass itself off as fact

rampancy: Unfortunately for Apple, they shot themselves in the foot with their latest release of Final Cut Pro, IIRC. Last I checked, a lot of people are still on Avid, and some have even switched back. And Sony's video editing package has become a lot better recently, from what I recall hearing. The big, big, BIG sticking point is Apple letting the Mac Pro wither and die as the Retina MacBook Pro and iMac have been hogging the spotlight. If there's one thing that's really bugged me, it's Apple's hypocritical (or at least, self-contradictory) stance towards its professional and enterprise customers. Discontinuing things like the Xserve, letting Xgrid die, and their apparent refusal to even give the Mac Pro a superficial refresh with Thunderbolt and USB 3 have disappointed a lot of people among Apple's "old guard" of users. Oh well. Apple is just chasing where the computer industry is going, and that direction, like it or not, is mobile devices. Sooner rather than later, Apple's pro users will have no choice but to switch to more powerful and more efficient solutions with Linux (and Windows). Apple's been making their bed for the past ten years with their development of the iPhone and iOS, and right now is where we'll be seeing them be forced to lie in it. It just so happens that that bed is one made of a whole lot of money. :/
Some interesting ideas, I think you might be right on the money. I often find Mac users/advocates don't have much tech knowledge if any, and support the platform for no logical reason other than the strongly held belief Mac is better... somehow. Enlightened Mac users are arguably becoming less common as the brand rolls out to a wider audience. But you're right, the Pro side of Mac is getting a little less love these days.

About a year ago Final Cut got a new release that was akin to an amateur, semi-pro version. It was not well received by many people as I recall. At the same trade show Avid were advertising making their product UI more like Final Cut :D

Oh, and if you're talking about Sony Vegas, I damn well love that programme!!! I started tinkering with the semi-pro version back when I was still using Avid. Since then I've used Pro8 and currently Pro10. Overall it's just as good as the other major contenders, has certain strengths and weakness in comparison, but a great package. These days it's always my no.1 choice!

DCT: here we are with the whining before anything was even announced and made official, just like when GOG was hinting that they were going to be selling new and indie games.
In your defense, I may be whining a little more about that today actually. So you're correct.

Be careful with your assumptions - they can easily go both ways, and the direction one usually chooses is often dictated with the agenda they are trying to push. And that's true for debates as ultimately meaningless as BF vs. CoD, or Mac vs. Windows, as they are for debates surrounding race, religion, or sociopolitical views.

There are a lot of people out there with perfectly valid reasons for choosing the Mac, who are very technologically savvy. No one says that you have to agree with their reasoning (or for that matter, mine), but on the other hand, nothing is contributed to the discussion by saying that all Mac users are technologically inept iSheep (and I'm not accusing you of saying this, I'm just using this as a general example), just as how it is equally immature and fatuous to accuse all PC users as closed-minded MS bigots, or all Linux users as arrogant self-righteous zealous who worship at the altar of St. Stallman.

I just think that the whole notion of platform fanboyism is stupid and needs to die. Now. What needs to happen is that consumers, regardless of platform, need to unite and make their voice heard to demand more from corporations, and hold them accountable when they engage in anti-consumer practices. And all corporations - Microsoft, Samsung, Google, and Apple - are guilty of this.

And the same was true for Windows/DOS users when Windows 95 hit the mainstream; the same is true now for Linux as distros like Ubuntu are becoming more and more mainstream. Hell, the same is true of GOG; accuse me of wearing rose-coloured glasses if you want, but the difference in the character and tone of the community was substantially different in the 2008 beta-2010 community vs. the post-blackout community.
Very well said, the whole post, but espcially this part:

I hold no grudge if you think I have an agenda :) And thanks for a measured response, rather than jumping the gun and flaming me!

Maybe its just bad luck. But I do unfortunately meet people who will tell me Mac is definitively better, but can't provide a single reason as to why. That's not to say all Mac users are the same. And that's not to say that the windows crowd are any better, I'm sure we will see a lot of elitist PC gamers talking the talk now that GOG is supporting Mac. Just that in my social sphere, most windows users I know are either quite well informed when it comes to technology, or only browse the internet and write emails. So I guess the latter don't care about technology either way. At least not enough to care what platform is better.

Supporting a brand for no logical reason is just about the worst kind of 'fanboyism' you can get, and the opposite of a sensible consumer. So yes, it annoys me when I meet elitist attitudes backed by no substance, preaching the gospel of Apple. Of course I know the hate flows both ways, but as I'm not currently a Mac user I don't get to experience the other side of life!
