Personally I've never been a HUGE star trek fan. I'll happily watch them when they're on, and I'm pretty sure I've seen all the Original Series several times over the years. Plus TNG was always on BBC2 at 6pm when I was eating dinner... so I used to watch that a fair bit, and mostly enjoyed it. (except all the stupid holodeck episodes).
Saw the odd episode of DS9 (Babylon 5 rip-off) and Voyager (the 7 of 9 show), but never really got into the story enough to get the big picture. Saw the odd early episode of Enterprise... but didn't find it very interesting. I like scott bakula, but he'll always be the quantum leap guy for me.
it rather seemed like all the shows after TNG were recycling the same plot ideas, characters and set-ups, but just with new faces.
First 2 movies were of course awesome, as was First Contact. But other than that they should probably be wiped from history by borg. Except the one about going back in time to get whales with an invisible ship!
I got much more into B5 and Farscape. Better, more original sci-fi than anything after TNG.
I loved the movie. I thought it was really very entertaining and I was happy to see how the original crew got together. All of them (well, with the possible exception of Bones who seemed to be larger and different) did a good job convincing me that they were the younger version.
Sure, going back in time messes up the story, but that's the case with pretty much any story, which is why I don't prefer that as a plot device. Moreover, it's not the first time Star Trek has done this.
