I’m not thrilled about Steam coming to GNU/Linux at all. I don’t like it and I have no interest for a DRM system in GNU/Linux.

I’ll keep an eye on its development though. Let’s see if it will really change anything in the Linux world.
But surely you must be glad that something like this is finally happening in the linux world. If nothing else it does bring more choice to new users and answers those who criticize linux world for not having enough games.

GOG should follow Steam on this one since, in my view, linux users are an important segment of retro players.

The DRM thingy is somewhat an alien in OSS world but I wonder, for example, how many linux users use gNewSense distribution, for example.

No. Really, I couldn’t care less.

If it will bring any positive changes to Linux, great! If not, well-
I'll be happy if Valve manages to get more companies to port their games, and therefor more DRM-free games come to Linux.

Otherwise...who needs Steam? I don't, and I don't care for it on my only OS.

I'd be much happier if GOG started releasing the source code to every game :D
Not fond of Unity either, but at least this is alternative to W8.

It did sound like the got Nvidia to cooperate with driver issues. Does that mean everyone gets to see the benefits? Don't know.

I had a thread talking about being confused on how to feel about this. I will say that if I HAD to buy Left4Dead I would want the Linux version. Is that supporting Linux gaming or supporting restrictive gaming? I finally don't know, and they may have me in a place where I just don't care to be all principled or snooty about the Steam thing.

Is the target Distro the only distro ever or just for getting started? I could see picking one to test drive before supporting others.
Steam Linux Beta Signups are open.
