Hey everyone. I'm not writing to support because this isn't strictly a GoG related problem, and it's a problem that's really got me scratching my head. Unfortunately, I can't play any games until I resolve it so hopefully one of you guys can help me.
It only happens when I'm playing video games. The computer will shut off without warning; no fragmenting, artifacting etc...it's as if I just pulled the plug on the computer. I originally figured my power supply was going bad so I replaced it with a new one, but the problem persists. This isn't a new system, I've had it for a year and this problem only started a few weeks ago. Any ideas?

2046 RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo 3gigs
WinXP serice pack 2

cogadh: Clagg, you are the one who is coming off like he doesn't know what he is talking about. Each individual PC does have a base or idle temp range that it normally runs at when not under a heavy workload. It is different for every PC, but there is a temp range that most PCs will fall into and knowing what a PCs idle temp is can help determine if the workload temp is way out of whack. Additionally, if the idle temp is unusually high, it can point to other issues beyond the video card, like the case airflow problem you mentioned. There is absolutely no need for you to be so rude when UK_John was asking a legitimate and pertinent question about the problem at hand.

Erm...seeing as I install and run networks for Argos I DO know what I am wittering on about !!
I know that the idle temperature is completely irrelevant as there is absolutely no way of knowing if the processor is at idle unless you've stoped all services and conections so unless the person confirms that ALL processes are stopped you never get your idle figure, unless you're there to physically see for yourself and seeing as the idle figure is irrelevant as the PC pings when under load your argment fails right there and then.
If you were to understand computers at anything more than bedroom "Aaaargh I've gotta stick a fan in it, I can feel heat !!" level,( such as one person on here already mentioned placing their hand near it and feeling for heat which is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard ) i.e. a normal rational, competant level you'd understand that this temps at idle obsession is completely irrelevant and most importantly wrong and misguided.

Shall I pull out my job running an internal tech support department for a large international company, supporting thousands of desktops and laptops across the entire US, Europe, parts of the Mid-East and Asia so we can compare... sizes?
I'm sorry, but you are unequivocally wrong. If you were one of my employees, I would fire you for the idiocy of what you are saying. But, since the OP has already solved his issue, this is a moot point. In the future, I would suggest you let go of your unwarranted arrogance as it does nothing to help anyone here. If you can't do that, then don't bother posting anymore, you'll just end up disrupting legitimate attempts to help people (again).
