Ok, maybe I'm missing/have missed something. I didn't have DE:HR installed recently, and thought I'd install it tonight.

I go to my games list and there it is, the first game on the list.

I click on "Visit store page" and it keeps taking me back to the default store page.

I do a search for DE:HR and all it shows is Director's Cut and The Fall.

Did they remove the damn game or something? WTF? Nothing I try brings me to where I can download it again.

On Steam, you don't install games from the store page but from your library. Just right click on the name of the game you want to install in your game list and select "install game", which is the top option IIRC.

Yeah, I just realized that. Duh. I found it in my library. But I'm still wondering, when I do a search, DE:HR no longer shows up, only DC and The Fall. I take that to mean that the original is no longer available.

Part of the problem was that some of my games are hidden, and since I didn't know how to "unhide" them, I would just search for them in the store again, because on the store page it will say "This game is in your library" and then, when you click "Play," it will go into install mode if the game isn't installed. Thus, knee-jerk panic mode: couldn't find the game that way!

I think it's a fairly standard practice to no longer sell the basic version of a game once the Director's Cut, or Legendary Edition, or GOTY edition, or whatever they choose to call it, is out.

In this case the Director's Cut is just the base game plus the Missing Link DLC I think, so there isn't much difference anyway.

The Director's Cut makes other changes to the content such as different lighting and changes to the boss fights. There are also some issues that have arisen due to it seemingly being based on an earlier build of the game (so problems fixed in later patches for the original version have reappeared in the Director's Cut).

I see. Did not know that. Thank you.
