"Switzerland's parliament has passed a law that could lead to the outright ban of violent games in the country.
An initial proposal was put forward last month, calling for the banning of any game that "requires cruel acts of violence against humans and human-like creatures for in-game success", and that motion has now been passed by the Swiss National Council.
According to a GamesMarkt report, while the request has now been formally accepted, the government still needs to decide on the specifics of the law.
Now that parliament has voted in favour of the move, it is free to decide on the specific legal text - although citizens are able to challenge any new law passed by parliament if they can show sufficient opposition to it.
One motion, put forward by the Christian Democratic Party has called for the ban of all first-person shooters rated 16+ or 18+ by PEGI. "

So, that's basically 50% of all games made since 1995.
This is not funny and might make a dangerous precedent.
So now all the people who don't have a clue about computers and computer games will go vote, based only on the knowledge that "OMG, YOU KILL HUMANS IN GAMES!". More silly things passed like this in Switzerland (A guy was sentenced, because he was "torturing" a huuuuge fish, by fighting with it for 10 minutes until he pulled it out of water. He took too much time with according to the court)
I have a bad feeling that this silly thing with games will pass :(
But I still hate this hipocrisy. After this they should go and ban also all the action movies, rap music and any display of blood. What will be the next step... put people in cocoons?

We had plenty of violence in games before 1995!
It's the karmic balance at work. Nothing more. Australia finally sees an opportunity for common sense to prevail and so someone else had to step in and fulfil the role of the backwards ignoramuses.

Yes, but because of the limitations in graphics, they often involved characters that could not be called human-like. So yes, it would include lots of games from before 1995, but not as large a percentage as games made after then, I think.
So, which games would be allowed then? I think this thread just about proves that a conclusion can't be found.

Ahhh, lan parties . . . . and the games themselves were fairly violent as well . . .=)
Switzerland should be invaded with a giant ogreish army....

They would just have their skulls burst by the force of true Swiss yodeling.

That guy was not sentenced to anything, he was sued but got off with no penalty, IIRC.
"Fortunately, the angler was acquitted."
