Anyone here ever used the Pandora online music service? You give it a musician/artist or a song as an input, and it finds similar songs and musicians.

This discussion is intended to be something similar for video games. Post a game (or a list of them), features that you liked (or disliked) about each one, and perhaps someone will quote your post and help you find similar games that may be even better than what you mentioned.

--------------------
Basic Request Format:

Post a game or a list of games. It is recommended that you include a list of your favorite features. You can also list features as being detrimental. For example:
"Something similar to Might and Magic 6: open-world, respawning, unlimited leveling, but with better game balance"
-> means that MM6's bad game balancing is detrimental, but you enjoyed its open-world/sandbox style and respawning/infinite leveling.

If you would prefer a specific time-setting (for example, medieval, renaissance, modern, sci-fi), specify it in your request. For example, if someone requests:

"Something similar to Might and Magic 8. open-world/sandbox, party-based, ability to change adventuring party mid-game, real-time combat with turn-based/pause option"
-> then you could actually suggest the original Mass Effect (2 and 3 are mission based and aren't sandbox-style) because it is open-world/sandbox style, party-based, you can swap out party members, and it features real-time combat with a tactical pause option. Most likely, this is not the answer you would be looking for - a better request might be:
"Something similar to Might and Magic 8. open-world/sandbox, party-based, ability to change adventuring party mid-game, real-time combat with turn-based/pause option, medieval fantasy, role-playing game style"
--------------------
Platforms, compatibility, and DRM:

While this discussion is mostly geared toward Windows/PC games, requests for games on other platforms and operating systems are welcome as well. The default platform for this discussion will be Windows/PC (including MS-DOS). If you are looking for games on other platforms or operating systems, you must clearly mention that in your request.

While most of us hate DRM, it's all too often a fact of digital life outside of GOG. If you would prefer to avoid certain types of DRM, mention in your post what types of DRM are acceptable (you can also mention that you would only like DRM-free games).
--------------------
My request (also an example of request formatting):

-Similar to Might and Magic 6-8. single-player, party-based, preferably lets you swap out characters mid-game, real-time with turn-based/pause option, role-playing game style, open-world/sandbox, respawning, no level limit. Preferably with better combat balancing than MM6-8, support for modding is a big plus.

-Similar to Tyrian 2000. scrolling 2D combat, upgrade shop after each level, wide variety of upgrades, loop-back to previous levels after finishing game, modern or sci-fi.

-Similar to Terminal Velocity, Radix, Descent and Tachyon: The Fringe. 3D spaceflight combat, sci-fi, unrealistic physics or lack of physics engine, mainly single-player. Online mode is completely optional, modding support is appreciated. Wide variety of upgrades is preferred.

I always prefer DRM-free, but Steam is acceptable if there is no DRM-free version offered.

Descent: Freespace and Freespace 2 are the best 3D spaceflight games that I have ever played. If you like this genre of games, you need them in your library. As of right now they are both on sale with a 50% discount here on GOG.

As much as I like Freespace 2, for me the best of the genre is Privateer 2 (and is on sale too): http://www.gog.com/game/privateer_2_the_darkening
