bansama: Then I suggest neither of you ever watch the TV versions of Ju-on. They make the movies seem like children's shows in comparison.
I don't really have a scariest movie. I love the horror genre and it has never really scared me, slightly unnerved me at times, but not what I would call out and out scared.
I would recommend seeing kairo and honogurai mizu no soko kara, both of which have US remakes IIRC (Pulse* and Dark Water respectively).
* Not to be confused with Pulse (1988) which is also a fairly good "horror-ish" movie.

I watched the Ju-on prequel as well. Counted? :D
Yeah, I've watched Darkwater(Jap original) as well. You can find Asian horror films easily on TV and DVD shops here in Singapore. I kinda miss the 80s and early 90s Hong Kong vampire and ghosts shows, not scary but they're classic and fun to watch.

Aatami: It's not just a matter of "classics", it's the fact than nowadays monsters are commodities and not, well, monsters. There are no horror stars anymore, just an endless series of horror-alike, pre-made packages ready to be served to anaesthetized consumers.

Aatami: My point still stands. I don't see the correlation between my age and if I should be scared of films or not.

So, I say it straight: you (and everyone else) are surrounded by shit, of course not by your choice, and the surrounding matters. Horror is a long-gone concept.

cw8: Yeah, I've watched Darkwater(Jap original) as well.

most illogical movie ever - she has a damp ceiling the size of ... the whole ceiling and she doesn't get a new apartment? jeez!
Also: gravedancers. Not a great cast, not a great premise but goddamn those grinning ghosts are CREEPY.
The Grudge made me jump a lot. But i don't know if that counts.
Blair Witch Project and The Ring (japanese v.) didn't really scare me at all when I was watching them, but both gave me really freaky scary dreams. The scary lady from The Ring still appears in my dreams every time I see a picture of her somewhere... hate her.

Apologies, but I still don't see how that is relevant.
Also, they really need to fix that quoting bug. :\

A friend had Sadako and her freaky eye as wallpaper for a while once.
The Jap version, when she crawls out of the TV is so much more scarier and horrifying than the US version.
This.

Sound of Horror gave me the willies as a kid.
Nowadays the production values are pretty ordinary, but still have s soft spot for the sounds of the creature.
Just located it on archive.org so might watch it again tonight, just for old times sake ☺

Event Horizon scared the shit out of me, I mean the whole Hellish scenes and the Blood Orgy scene, gives me the willies.
yea I watched that movie when I was like 12, had nightmares for along time. Though I think I used a pillow to shield my eyes alot of the time, anyway I re watched it recently and still was scared as hell.

The original cut of Event Horizon was over 2 hours long. Alot of gore had to be cut in order for it to receive an R Rating. From what I've read, alot of the cut gore was from the quick flashes of hell. In the original version, they were alot worse, there were more of them and they didn't go by nearly as quickly. Too bad that isn't the version that got released. I was always hoping an Unrated edition of the DVD would come out one day, but it never did. <sadface>
The scariest movie I have ever seen is either [REC] or The Descent.
