In an unusual move, I'm going to talk about why I don't want The Witcher. I'm a big fan of RPGs generally, especially games that leave the player with genuinely open-ended options about how to resolve many situations (a la Fallout). However, based on what little I know about The Witcher (which consists of having watched the trailer and maybe half-read some reviews when it came out), it struck me as a rather juvenile effort at 'maturity' - invoking nudity and racial themes as an attempt to act 'dark' and 'edgy', rather than because it actually had anything to say. "Oooh, people are being racist towards fantasy races, that's a new one!" On that basis I pretty much dismissed the game and have never taken a second look - plenty of other games I could be playing, right?
But, I'm always open having my mind changed. So if you think that I've terribly misjudged the game based on a superficial first impression (which I'll admit is possible), and you want to PROVE ME WRONG, then by all means gift me the game - I'll play it, and tell you what I think.
