Kingoftherings: Apparently I'm the only person that didn't think the last level was that hard.
It was harder than the rest of the game, but I beat it in probably two sittings.

What does two sittings mean in terms of time spent on meat circus and the last boss?

If I remember correctly, I had been playing for a while and got to some part where I got stuck, so I quit for the night. And then I beat it the next day.
I can't remember exactly what I was stuck on, but it was right after that part where you escort the kid up the tent.

Whiteblade999: Even if someone works on compatibility unforseen issues can arise. Personally only two games don't want to work for me. Divine Divinity likes to crash 100 times in the first dungeon while Arx Fatalis is just unstable on a whole. Out of the 30 or so games I own only a couple of bad apples so it isn't the service man.

Yeah, those games seem fine for most (Divinity now that the patch has been released). One of those hardware config things...

cogadh: Except for the fact that the GOG installer will not actually run on a Win 98 machine at all, it will just error out when run. It only works on XP or higher (it might also work on Win2K).

Dave3d: Do you mean the very start of the game when you have to dock with the space station? When I first installed the game and tried it out, it frustrated me to no end when the camera would immediately start rotating around while I tried to control the ship with the WASD keys and mouse. I shut down the game and checked the forums, finding the widscreen edit which I decided to enable in the config settings. When I was editing the config settings I noticed that the joystick was set to 'True' (or 'on'). Changing it to 'False' ('off') stopped the camera from panning around and allowed me to steer properly.
Advent Rising is quite buggy though; it's shut down on me several times during my playthough. It's a pretty good game though, so while the shutdowns are annoying I just restart the game and start playing again from the last save.

that is EXACTLY what was happening.
Crash after crash after crash because of the camera spinning and cant control the actual ship.
I still wont play it though, but thanks for the fix.
maybe it will help someone else.

stonebro: I suspect GOG have had to rush a few releases because of the whole Activision thing. They've been known to make amends for initial bugs before, even those that are not theirs, such as the helicopter boss crash bug in Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project.
Releasing several older multi-disc FMV games, as well as Interstate '76 which has been notorious for being ridiculously hard to get working properly on newer systems for a while, in such a short time-span, has probably affected the overall test and QA time available for each release and thus more users than normal have problems with them.

chautemoc: I figured that too. But it's the difference between annoying/occasional bugs for some people and game breaking bugs for pretty much everyone. They should've put Interstate off until it was ready, or if they couldnt get it working properly, not released it at all. I feel like I have to check the forums for bugs before buying now...before I didn't even think about it.

Do you mean the Prince of Persia series? Cos you couldn't possibly dislike that...

Ummm, I have been running XP x64 for years now, and have never had a problem with gaming on it, except for some old dos games that wouldnt install because they had an OS check built in.
And yes, I meant Prince of Persia series? Worst keyboard/mouse support I have ever seen, besides Bloodrayne 2. Stupid camera and control support. Probably great for all those console/controller kiddies out there, but sucks hard with mouse/keyboard.

I was thinking more along the lines of installing it on my xp machine, and copying the game files to 98?
Will have to try that.

Braid has me all mad (just cause I am dumb, and cant figure out puzzles, :P).
Red Faction Gorrilla is kind of entertaining, only because you can destroy stuff.
stalker was just a big piece of poop.

So, I decided to take a chance and play some games I would not normally touch.
I dont mind if they suck too much, but when they are buggy is what gets me going.
They arent that expensive, and it gives gog money to keep going, and maybe get a game I want on here.

This is a near criminal lack of playing of Disciples 2, Fallout 1 and 2 and HOMM 2 and 3. You, sir, should be ashamed!
P.S. I haven't played that many GOG games yet (maybe half of the ones I've bought), so like ... 6 or 7 maybe), but I'm on Vista 64 and so far haven 't had any problems yet.

I think his comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything else.
If you like faster paced action then you might want to give Advent Rising another try. To turn off the joystick just go into your Advent Rising folder, look in the System folder, and open the "MyDefault" file with notepad. Find the "UseJoystick=True" entry and replace 'True' with 'False'.
