Now I'm hoping for a Thief sale soon, I really want to try those classics again.

Gazoinks: Please tell me you hallucinated that. I'm going to die right now if that's true (though the trailer suggests it's keeping the medieval victorian thing).

NameGoo: No, he didn't hallucinate that. This is what modern Garrett was supposed to look like. The idea has been scrapped...hopefully.
As far as multiplayer goes, I think it's still all speculations.
ALGHFDOGH OGFOGDFFOF. Mind you, I think a modern (or even Cyberpunk) thief-style game would be interesting, but as a stand-alone IP not a Thief sequel.

Fred_DM: wait, didn't they say Thief 4 would take place in modern times?!? that's what everybody complained about.

I really don't want to be a game dev. Either you try to evolve and do something new "They changed it and now they broke it" or you stick with the old concept "greedy company only wants to make money with no creativity".

Man, it really is impossible to please gamers nowadays ...

Well yeah. We're all entitled, you should be used to it. :P But in the case of a modern Thief game, I just feel like that's such a departure that it'd be better as it's own IP instead of a Thief game.

I know what you mean. All this talk makes me want to pick some taffers' pockets. I may reinstall the games after I finish Silent Storm.

If you do have Doom 3 though, I recommend playing The Dark Mod. Other than the sword combat, TDM is an excellent TC in its own right, and honestly it's a bit hard going back to sluggish mantling in the Dark Engine games after being able to mantle any reachable surface with a 100% success rate in TDM.

That's an unfair dichotomy. There are sequels to classics that 'innovate' without breaking anything, and still retain the feel of the predecessor, like the Dark Forces series, or what System Shock 2 is to System Shock 1 (though SS2 did dumb down the hacking minigame). Even Morrowind was a reasonably good sequel to Daggerfall. There's innovation, and then there's removing a good feature for whatever reason.

Nevertheless, though the trailer leaves me cold, I won't pass final judgment on the game until it's released. DXHR also had an equally amusing, troll-worthy promo trailer, and at that time looked like it could have gone in the shit direction, but it ended up being one of my favourite games of that year. Well, except the boss fights. God, those were terrible.
Don't know what to think about Thief 4 yet, Deus Ex HR ended up ok, but it doesn't say anything about T4; also Deus Ex HR was in development and nearly finished when Square took over T4 won't have this chance. I just hope they won't try to change it into an Assassin's Creed wannabe or a third person bow using shooter.

Yep... Everyone wanted more THIEF. Thief 2 came out, and while some thought it was great, a very common complaint was... its not different enough.

THEN... it was... oh, wait, its different, it has robots, I don't like the robots... but I didn't like the zombies either. Can we get a DIFFERENT game that has no zombies, but nothing to replace non-humanoids that plays out exactly the same as before... but different?

The "trailer" failed to impress me. The exaggerated moves especially kill it for me. Those are not the moves of a thief. At least not The Thief.
might be the wrong topic to necro but the new Thief is up for pre order on steam for 27£ or 30£ depending on what version.

It will also be on PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox one
