Hey, GOG, there's a guy I follow on Twitter that is making this really awesome old-timy platformer. He started a Kickstarter, but it's frozen right now; I quote "it's struggling right now." Could you guys check it out, share it around and maybe back it? I want to see this work. . .

I wonder why it's struggling? Could it possibly be because of the other 3,267,173 "oldschool retro brutal-difficulty indie shooter platformers" that have been released and/or kickstarted in the past 3 years?

At this point, it doesn't matter how good your game is, if it is superficially similar to a million other games released recently. The indie market is so saturated by now that you need to have original ideas to stand out. This does not have any original ideas. In fact, the whole point of it seems to be "no original ideas". The first bit of the description is all it takes to turn most people away: "I wanted a colorful 2D shooter with awesome pixel art, radical chiptune, and totally insane difficulty. So I made this!" Congratulations. You and everybody else.

Let it die like it deserves.

The guy that's making this is pretty new to the indie-sphere; I know him somewhat on Twitter. Being a dev myself, I understand that breaking into making games is very hard when nobody is supporting you. Therefor, I'm trying to support him. I respect your opinions, but do know I don't totally share them. :/

And I respect yours. Please understand that I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the quality of his work. For all I know, his game may be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

What I am saying is that with the indie scene looking the way it does at the moment, hoping/expecting to run a successful Kickstarter campaign for a game that is virtually identical to a whole bunch of other recent indie games is both overly optimistic and naïve. The one thing that may save him is that he's only asking for $3000 which may be doable, even with that kind of game, but it does require that he manages to reach those few people still interested in yet another oldschool retro 2D pixel-art chiptune brutal-difficulty puzzle platform shooter, and they are probably few and far between at this point. How good or promising the game actually is is more or less a moot point if most people who even see his Kickstarter page immediately lose interest and leave it again at once.

When trying to capture people's interest, rule #1 is "Don't do the exact same thing that everybody else has been doing recently", but that is what he is doing.

All that being said, if you (or anybody else reading this) do want another game of this type, then by all means go ahead and back it :-)

I see what you're saying, and you have a good point; I'll definitely make sure to mention your comments if I happen to be talking to him on the subject! :)
While the link posted about Kickstarter is fine and well. I'd rather see game kickstarters have their own subject...However it should have the Game's Name, type of game, and KS or Kickstarter in the subject line, so people don't make thirty threads about one game.
