I'm trying to remember the title of a space RTS style game that I played a fair while back. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful to hear suggestions:

1) Games its not - This is not any of the following
Conquest Frontier Wars - Sins of a Solar Empire - Star Trek Armada series - Genesis

2) Details I recall:
Battles took place over a 2D battle field (much like those example games listed above)

Ships moved with a bit of sluggishness to their stopping and some objects put into motion would continue even after thrust was removed

You could build fixed defences and ships - some ships could tow others along - combined with the above point one tactic was to "throw" powerful turrets forward.

Ships were built from harvested resources.

It was released some time around the same era as Conquest Frontier Wars and was likely one of several riding the wave Homeworld made around that time in gaming.

Those are all the details I can remember; not much to go on I know.
Haegemonia?

Good suggestion, but nope its not Heagemonia (great game though - very pretty even if combat is a bit fiddly).
Is it O.R.B. (Offworld Resource Base)?

I thought I had a few ideas until you said the thing about the ships being made from harvested resources. Now I don't have a clue but I'm dying to know. I wasn't aware there was a space RTS I hadn't played.
Outforce?

Edit: I found these videos of gameplay. This game has almost no footage of on youtube...

Well not directly, I meant simply that it has a resourcing system - harvest and build :)

Nope not ORB - though it being on discount on GOG right now got me thinking of other space games

YES I think that's it!
Now to plague GOG to get it!
It doesn't show that in the videos but there actually are special ships that can tug stations and stuff around (like you mentioned in your post). Just thought to mention it to further make sure that this game is the right one.

You can see them in this screenshot,:

Thanks - and yeah certainly the right game - especially with the "wobbly" camera they went for
