CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference has just finished and everything is clear now. If you haven't been able to tune in to watch the live stream, don't worry. We've prepared a quick summary of our presentation with a video recap for your convenience. So, let's not wait any longer.

At the very beginning we had to brag a bit about how awesome the service is doing, of course thanks to you - our great users. And then, suddenly, the lights went off, creepy moans started letting out from all over the place while The EnigmaticT tried to discern something in the dark with his flashlight.

Worry not, it was the announcement of Alone in the Dark, that comes with Alone in the Dark 2 and Alone in the Dark 3 as free bonus materials! This great series starts a new wave of Atari games that will be available in the coming weeks! And on 10th of May as the last game from Atari, we'll release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. What's even cooler we're going to have a special, time-limited offer that will give you a 50% discount, so the game will cost you only $4.99!

As we're on the subject of The Witcher, we had more cool stuff about its upcoming sequel on GOG.com. Starting on May 10, everyone who pre-order The Witcher 2 on GOG.com will be able to pre-purchase the game and download 90% of the build, so they can play the game on release day! So if you haven't pre-ordered the game yet, you'd better do that before May 16! More details on The Witcher deals can be found here.

Pre-downloading such huge game like The Witcher 2 is some serious business, and you'd need some serious downloader to do that. That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy. What else? Personal messaging will be now possible for all our users!

But that's not all! At the very end, spotlight was on your favourite French Monk, who had some news regarding new publishers coming to the site. Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix - one of those publishers is already signed, while two more from the list are almost on board! Which and when is coming? Well, you'll have to wait a bit for that :)

You can watch the video recap of the presentation here. Enjoy!

Lone3wolf: Probably because they set their prices in the American Dollars....
but yeah, only one country in the world puts month before date, and expects the rest of the world to understand it.....

So I can understand hating on America, I live here... there's plenty to hate. But do we have to get it from member's of this gaming community too? Growing up as a kid I'd always put day/month/year and get scolded for it!

It's not like we want to do it different and illogical, it's old dudes (and women) that can't let go of tradition. Same with metric vs... whatever it is we use!

No offense to the GoGoDs, but the American system makes the most sense to me from a readability perspective. You put your smallest set/container first, your second biggest second, and your third biggest last. {Month}/{Day}/{Year}.

You Europeans are just used to seeing tiny units directly in front of you.
Could you please confirm that folks who buy W2 here and register with CDP RED will be able to download free Polish localization for W2? Apparently Tomek Gop said something to that effect during the conference. Thx

Absurd.
And your argument for not using the metric system? ;-)

I didn´t see any hate on the comments. Just some silly joke.
And they´re called originally "Imperial units" (I think), of course the US renamed them as "United States customary system", but the units used are almost the same.

April 14th, 2011 Versus the 14th of April, 2011

Really, that's all you're short handing, both are correct.
As an American, I do prefer the month/day/year system. As an American, I can say, fuck the 'standard' measurement system. How the hell does anybody come up with such a crappy, convoluted system?

Convoluted? The metric system is the most easy to use, and americans also use it... On the universities for scientific purposes, if you ever study phisics, chemistry... never expect to use the "United States customary system". Conversion between units are much more easy and the results are much widely understood.
And the fact of using dd mm yyyy is also more obvious, it´s a logical principle to order units from smaller to bigger (or from bigger to smaller).
This can be understood more instinctively by people from different cultures.

Will be additional content (i.e. soundtrack, manuals, artbook) available via new downloader?
Some of these are pretty large, and on slow connections would be great to use downloader features, rather then browser.

I was talking about the American system. I've always heard it called 'standard', God alone knows why. I totally agree about the metric system being easier to use.
As I take it there is a deep rooted linguistic/cultural reason for the difference. UK-US wise it may just be the difference between "the first of May" (English style speech) and "May first" (US style), but
in East Asia, for example, it's the opposite of the UK and the largest unit (not numerical set) comes first, so it's year/month/day. This extends to addresses where the country comes first, then city, street, etc.

Personally I "get" the UK way and the East Asian way, but the American way seems counter-intuitive, but that's just me :)

The American way of writing the date and the European way of writing the date are both correct. Same goes for measuring. I don't think it is very respectful to assume that either one is wrong and to insult them. If you are in Europe go by their standards but if you're in America then respect their standards too. No need for blind hate from people that only know a country/region through news broadcasts.
