Feel free to lift this one to a game specific thread instead.

My problem is: The game doesn't work. I try to start it and i get the "Christmas has been detected. Activate Christmas? (Y/N)". No matter what i choose, the game crashes after that. Sometimes i get to see a first screen (with the XSIV Games logo), sometimes the 2nd (never get a chance to see what it is), but i never get into the game. Anyone else having this problem?

PS I did one last try (like the 20th or so) and managed to enter the menus. Tried checking the instructions but the pages had a life of their own and switched without me doing anything. Didn't have any time to read. And then - it crashed. I know, it's free so don't complain, but it was also a gift.

What operating system? And have you tried completely uninstalling/re-installing?
Try using the 'Graphic Mode Setup' in the GOG shortcut folder from which you launched the game. Change the graphics mode to something else. I had to change mine to Surface to get the game to work (a different mode may work for you).

Have you tried running the game's Setup program? Not GoG's Graphic Mode Setup, but Tyrian's actual setup, where you choose your audio device (FM Synth or MIDI) and Graphic Detail. Sometimes these DOS games are fickle about running without a proper cfg file.

If the game continues to fail to run using GOG's wrapper, you might try running the game using a different DOSBox frontend. I highly recommend D-Fend ReloadedD-Fend Reloaded. D-Fend should have a decent tutorial for creating a profile for DOS games, but if you need help, I can post step-by-step screencaps.
I too have a bit of a problem with Tyrian 2000.

The game runs pretty good and I actually like the soundtrack, especially in FM mode, it reminds me a lot of the good days of the 16 bit consoles. BUT...

When I try to actually play the game, the ship always goes to the right of the screen and I'm always struggling to get it to the left side, even when I navigate through the options like, say, the music, the bar will always go up as if I pressed right.

I'm completely inexperienced on DOS-Box as many old games I like already have a decent source port that works right away, so, if it's any configuration for DOS-Box, I don't even know where to begin with.

It does look like it's something about my mouse or my keyboard, I can't really tell.

EDIT: Fogot to mention, I use WinXP.

EDITEDIT: My bad, I already found what the problem is. I had my Xbox 360 USB controller attached to the PC, when I unplugged it, the problem was instantly gone. Feel free to delete or move this post. Thanks anyways =)

Leave it up. Others will want to know the answer to the problem if they have it. I also had that problem, and the solution was also to unplug my XUSB controller.

Yep, changing the 'Graphic Mode Setup' fixed it. Tried using Direct3D and it worked. Thanks. Would like to hear from other users which mode they have gotten the best graphics from though :)

However, i have another problem as i mentioned above. Whenever i try to enter the 'Instructions' page and read them, the page i select stays up about ½ a second and then it just flips through all pages there are and exits to the page where i selected 'Instructions'. Irritating... but perhaps this question should be lifted to a new topic? Feel free to do so

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be related to SupahGamah's issue with the 360 pad, although I wasn't having any control problems in-game. I unplugged mine, and it fixed the problem.

If you have a joystick plugged in, try calibrating it in the controls menu (you have to start a new game first) or unplugging it.

This actually happens a lot with the 360 pad on older games. Of course, even with games that actively support it, I still have to unplug the damn thing, because they tend to insist on displaying [X] or [Left Stick] on the control readouts even though I'm playing with the mouse and keyboard.

I don't HAVE a USB xbox controller, and I'm having this very issue. Running Windows 8.
Side thought, I have a razer game pad plugged in, I wonder if thats it.
EDIT: That's exactly what it was.
It appears that this solution is if you have any peripheral that is additional to the kyeboard and mouse, it freaks out.
