Surely the proper way to seal the flood is to build a series pumps and a pair of elevated aquaducts, one for water and one for magma.
Direct them so they are pointing at each other but are not connected, and end just above the spill.
Start the pumps, and when the water and magma flows of the end they should collide and create an unsupported obsidian wall. The resulting cave-in should plug the spill.
