Does anyone know if either Waxworks or Personal Nightmare compare to Shadowgate, Uninvited, or Deja Vu from the NES? Other than that they are all point and click adventure titles.
Thanks.

I've only played Deja Vu and Waxworks.
I'd actually place Waxworks a little closer to the likes of Eye Of The Beholder. There are adventure elements to it, but the RPG elements seem more to the fore... but that said, I think the nature of the gameplay can change depending on which Waxwork you're in.
Neither the adventure elements or the RPG style elements are tremendously deep though. Apparently the engine used for Personal Nightmare, Waxworks and Elvira were all based on AberMUD code?
Any chance anyone else knows for sure?
EOTB and Waxworks are WORLDS apart though. EOTB is a pretty basic dungeon RPG - very polished but it's still just that. Waxworks only has one character, more complex stats, adventure elements, horror setting, unique locations everywhere.
Deja Vu & Shadowgate are a lot closer to Waxworks: unique locations, single character, lots of items to pick up, etc. If you liked those, you'll like Waxworks and Personal Nightmare for sure. You'll love the darker tones in these games as well. Be sure to check out Elvira I & II too though!
Thank you very much. I'll have to give one of them a try and if I like it I'll pick up the other.
