undeadcow: Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus
I bought a boxed version years ago. That was a time when RTS was my absolutely favorite genre. I did enjoy Invictus back then but I doubt I'll ever play it again (RTS is not my favorite anymore). The game has a lot of cool ideas but the execution is average, sometimes even bad.

At the beginning you can choose 2 out of 10 heroes that will lead your armies. Later in the game you will recruit additional two but you'll have to solve some special quests to acquire their help. Heroes are very powerful units and each of them has a special ability that you can cast limited times because the consume so called God points.

There is no base building, instead you get some army points at the beginning of each scenario and you will have to build you army. In theory you should be very careful because if any of your units dies it's removed from your reserves and you won't be able to recruit it anymore. Practically you don't have to bother about it at all. After each scenario several units will join your cause and during the gameplay you can find some items that will add mythological creatures to your reserves. So implementation of army micromanaging is basically a failure.

Objectives are quite varied. Protect civilians, kill a monster, find some item and stuff like that. Of course there are some side quest and it may turn out that your main objective was actually a way to lead you to a trap. You didn't expect Poseidon to play fair, now did you? OK, objectives may be varied but the problem is you are always solving them in the same way: kill, KILL, KILL!

UI is rather poor. Sometimes even awkward. How many times do you have to order your units to attack? Sigh...

It's not a terrible game, even though you might get this impression by now. If you like Greek mythology you should be satisfied - not only many missions are directly related to myths but you will also meet a lot of NPCs who only want to tell you their stories. It was certainly very nice. The story is also well told so we may say that the atmosphere is strongest side of Invictus. RTS part wasn't that bad neither. When you get used to the poor UI it should be rather entertaining. Your main task is to react properly for each new threat that you may encounter. An unexpected ambush? Split your tank units and protect your archers from both sides. Powerful mythological creature? Let the heroes handle it otherwise your standard army will be massacred.

A short conclusion: if you are a fan of both RTS games and Greek mythology you should enjoy this game a lot. At least I may assure you that I did ;) Even though I'm still fond of Greek mythology I'm not into RTS anymore so I have no desire to replay this game. If you only like (and not love) RTS I would suggest skipping this title and getting something better.

Crosmando: Lionheart doesn't use the Infinity Engine.
Hmm indeed.. I was wrong :). But it looks similar :D
SHIT! I am so broke, I bought a few titles from this promo yesterday, and yet every time I come in here I think, "Hey that looks pretty cool."

tinyE: I just started playing Lionheart this morning even though I bought it like five months ago. It's odd but I love it. Something tells me I'm going to end up restarting it 1000+ times until I get a skill set I'm happy with. Those character build FAQs never work because one guy says do this and another says the exact opposite.
I'm the same way...I bought it back in June '11 and still keep trying different builds. I'm looking forward to your definitive FAQ that ends the contradiction once and for all!! =D

Same here. All I bought was M.A.X. 1&2, but I keep coming back looking for more. Problem is, all the games I want are $5 and I'm sure they'll be cheaper later (money's a bit tight right now, or I wouldn't be as stingy).

Indeed, it used an engine called Voxel if I recall correctly. The first city in the game Barcelona was actually pretty good, plenty to do, heaps of NPC's, diverse locations. But after that the game goes downhill rapidly and becomes almost a pure hack & slasher.

undeadcow: Can anyone comment on the following games?

Stonekeep (which I think I'll get because I always wanted to play it as a youth but even the demo wouldn't work on my DOS system)
Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Stonekeep is very good, Lionheart is a buggy mess, Invictus is a little above average .
Thanks to Ghorpm and Licurg for their responses on Stonekeep, Lionheart, and Invictus.

...and here's Tracy with the national weather. Tracy?
Wish there was a way to get a 80% discount if you already have the games. Picked up the Fallout triple pack hard copy about a year ago for $20 that contained fall 1,2 and tactics. Still haven't got to Fallout 2 or Tactics yet. Between those and and the 20+ games I bought during the summer sale I'm having a hard time finding enough hours in the day to play them. Not to mention my Xbox games. I think I'm going to have to clone myself 3 or 4 times just to play them all:-)
Might as well pick up Subwar to complete the package.
Looks like only missing Subwar 2050.

Gaming Desire > Willpower > Purchasing Power
low rated
I've read about the possible/certain loss of the Fallout games here and now I wonder if I should buy them now or simply wait (read: hope) for another sale later this year? I'm not really sure since the price is still 5$ per game. :(

At the very least, they'd probably be at least 50% off again in the christmas sale, and GOG would probably announce it before they have to remove it and maybe have a special promo.
