GOG loves D&D

The Best of The Best. Unrivaled Champions of the genre. Nine of the Greatest. The Supreme Achievement of isometric era. Matchless. Perfect. 11 out of 10. Yes, you've guessed it--we're talking about D&D RPGs. From now until Friday, September 21 at AM 9:59 GMT [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/hasbro_stacking_promo/]you can buy fantastic Hasbro RPGs from the world of Dungeons and Dragons up to 65% off! If by some terrible twist of fate you didn't have the chance to add all of those Diamonds to your collection, now is a chance to correct this terrible injustice. Let's take a peek into the treasury, shall we?

In the center of our D&D chamber we've got the iconic Baldur’s Gate: The Original Saga and Baldur’s Gate II: Complete that collectively received over 10 “Best game of the year” awards from publications such as PC Gamer, Eurogamer, Computer Games Magazine and IGN. And in the cold, ice-filled corner there's the Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 series that brought the D&D license to a more combat-oriented RPG gaming. The strange shimmering light comes from the inter-dimensional portal where Planescape: Torment resides. Winner of multiple RPG and Game of the Year awards in 1999, it is widely considered as one of the best storytelling RPGs in gaming history.
The treasure chamber wouldn't be complete without Neverwinter Nights--a game with a great single player campaign that offers even greater multiplayer experience and modding capabilities. This game is literally one you could play the rest of your life, if you were determined to get through every single user-created campaign or keep attending a multi-player server. And don't forget about the somewhat underrated gems in the collection! Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is a fascinating blend of RPG and RTS. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is an action RPG with some interesting tactical elements to go along with the usual hack and slash of the genre. Finally, Temple of Elemental Evil, one of the tougher tactical RPGs ever--so hard that it balances on the fine edge of fairness.

A short news post like this is not nearly enough to give justice to each single D&D Diamond available in this promo. And because GOG staff loves D&D so much we are going to tell you about our personal experiences with those games throughout the week, starting tomorrow. But enough talk! Let the D20s roll! Visit the promo page to complete your collection of Diamonds of D&D!

Faithful: I thought gog had moved beyond the buy-them-all for the best deal approach, but sadly it has not.

Too bad as I see a couple titles to add to the ones I already own from gog, but it is a no go at less than 50% off.
Actually, some people were asking why there are "buy-them-all" promos no more.

I don't really care, but to be honest, if you do buy all games from a promo, then you get better deal with promo like this one.

gameon: You didn't like it? I once had it on PS2, but decided to sell my ps2 and games shortly after, so i didn't properly try it.

But it is something i've been interested in.

What didn't you like about it?
Almost everything to be honest. It felt like a bad console port to PC.
Cumbersome GUI, fixed camera, almost boring gameplay, mediocre voice acting and a storyline taken out of "Clichés and me: How to be utterly unoriginal" manual.
Add to that dumb AI, for both the enemies and your party, and the awful controls and I think there's no redeeming aspect left to enjoy the game.

It may sound bit harsh but I really tried to give the game a chance and every time it pushed me away harder and harder.

StickOfPlywood: Was hoping Arcanum:Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura would show up, since it was published by Hasbro, like Temple of Elemental Evil, even if it didn't have the DnD moniker! Oh well...
It was published by Sierra.
Well played GOG... Well played -____-
What could I say about a promo containing some of the best games ever made, except I already have all of them? :P

And of course, everyone get both Baldur's Gates and Torment.

WOOPS! I thought it said Hasbro on the Arcanum page, but maybe I was looking at the Temple page. It says Activision now... I think something's wrong with my brain...

A little research goes a long way!

That's a nice promotion. It's a shame I can't take advantage of it, since I own them all already. I'll spread the word though. No RPG fan should pass this up.

You know that you also get a discount for the items you own already, right?

Yeah, it's weird GOG only lists the "current" publisher of games, not the publisher of the game when it was well.... published (which I believe is what steam does). Arcanum's publisher is listed Activision (after Sierra went bankrupt Activision bought them out).
Nice, you own all games from this promo.
Have fun and don't forget to check out our next offer.

Glad to see that this weekend.
I know it's a weird trade offer, but here it goes: Anyone want to buy me BG2 and PS:T on GOG, and for exchange I'll gift them the D&D Anthology pack (the whole game on sale here except Demon Stone an Dragon Shard) on Gamersgate?

Already owned some of the best of these on disk....but BG1 is something I've been wanting to play with my boy in multiplayer....I played a lot of this in multi years ago, but never finished......I tried on my home wireless network, but had all sorts of problems.

I also lost my TOSC disk, so this purchase would help with that aspect.

However, I won't bother unless I know I can play multi. Any BG experts here that can confirm whether I can, and how to do so?

If I purchase it and download on both computers, will that work?

AndyBuzz: If you did this sale next week it would have been an exact year since the last time.
Got the whole collection then, though oddly it was $0.32 more expensive O_o

I still feel cheated out for Demon Stone. What a piece of sh(mumblemumblegrumble)

Speaking only for myself, I thought the action was extremely ... unvisceral, for lack of a better word. I'd press the keys and the badguys get pushed back a little and maybe grunt a little, and eventually they'd fall down, but I never really felt like I was in the midst of brutal combat. Combine that with boring, irritating protagonists, boring and repetitive combat as wave after wave of the same damn monster appear out of thin air, lousy writing ("You've failed, old man." "Justice never fails."), and lousy controls (it would probably be more tolerable with a gamepad; not sure if it's supported), and you get a game I would not recommend to anyone.

Physicser: Awesome deal, especially since I already have a couple of the games (Planescape and the Baldur's). If only I weren't a perpetually broke grad student.

Edit:

Endzville: So what would people say are the "essentials" of this pack?
avatar
Physicser: I, personally, would go for the Baldur's Gates (2 continues the story of 1, so I wouldn't go into 2 without having 1) or Neverwinter Nights. The Icewind Dales are much more combat and much less story/dialogue focused, so if that's your thing, then go for that. Dragonshard is an RTS RPG type thingy, so a bit different, and I haven't played ToEE or Demon Stone, so I can't say anything about them.
Thanks for the reply, the Icewind Dales and Dragonshard don't really sound like my type of game in that case so that narrows it down thankfully. Will definitely consider Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights but, as with yourself, I'm a nigh-broke student too so I'll see.

It's a better deal if you intend to buy most of the games is my problem so I could honestly just be leaving it and pick them up on another promo to be honest.
Bought the two I was missing to complete my collection.

Thanks for the promo and keep up the great work :)
